2.4L Differences: 6bolt and 7 bolt

I'm hoping to build a basic 2.4L this winter to swap into my Talon.

The 7 bolt 2.4L has a a girdle. The 6 bolt doesn't. Other than that, are there any differences? I know Shane was running a 7 bolt 2.4L, are there any negatives compared to the 6 bolt block? Do the 2.4L have oil squirters at all? Are the 7 bolt squirters (if equipped) similar to the 2G squirters?

Re: 2.4L Differences: 6bolt and 7 bolt

The 7bolt has 7 bolts on the crankshaft, and the 6bolt has 6 bolts on the crankshaft

Mine didnt have any oil squirters(6bolt)

Re: 2.4L Differences: 6bolt and 7 bolt

None of them have oil squirters because they weren't used in turbo applications from the factory. The 6-bolt motors have flat cast pads where the squirters would go, so it wouldn't be much to drill and tap them for squirters. I didn't bother with mine or the others I built since they aren't for long-term high rpm use like in road racing. I don't know much about the 7-bolters, I haven't built any of them, only 6-bolts. Both blocks should be identical to their non-turbo 2.0 brethren.

Re: 2.4L Differences: 6bolt and 7 bolt

There shouldn't be any sort of crankwalk issues with the 7 bolts right? Do they use a normal 2 piece thrust/crank bearing?

I believe the crank walk issues on the 2.4 should be the same as the 2.0. Didn't Carey walk his 7 bolt 2.4?

you may know this already but I wasn't sure, motor mounts can be different. I see you have a 1g picture, don't know if that is the car you are planning on putting the 2.4 into but most 7bolt 2.4 have 2g style motor mounts.

I have heard of 7 bolts 2.4L walking so I am sticking with 6 bolt motor
If you are going to invest money into something like that might as well not take the chance. U pull has the 6 bolts every once in a while.

you also have to plug extra holes on the 7bolt block deck (extra oil and coolent holes) that are not used with the 4g63 head. I have a 2.4 7bolt that I will be building and putting in my evo. 2.4 7bolts dont really walk to easy
