Oil Leak Problem

Hi, I'm new to the site... I have a question and I'm hoping someone will know where to start.. I have a 96 Talon TSI AWD.. I have a big oil leak problem. I know my valve cover leaked so I replaced it and put new gaskets on.. my problem up there is oil keeps blowing out of some place because I keep getting a puddle on top of my valve cover.. I replaced the oil cap along with the cover and gaskets.. It also leaks from under the car... does anyone know where I can start looking for this ... the motor was just rebuilt about 500 miles ago.. any ideas... it has a brand new oil pump and oil lines.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

The valve cover itself may have a crack in it.

As for the leaks underneath, check the oil pan (where it mates to the block) and the turbo oil return tube.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

also if it is leaking bad enough to where you cant tell where its coming from. Engine degreaser may not be a bad idea. That way you can tell exactly where its coming from.

+1. If you overtightened any of the bolts in the "spark plug valley" of the valve cover, it may have cracked. Also, if you have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and you're seeing good pressure, I wouldn't worry about an aftermarket pump.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

you cracked the valve cover for sure. I have not seen any upgraded after market pumps for dsm's. oem is just fine or a safty21 is also good.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

Could be your oil pump gasket or the oil filter housing gasket. As for the valve cover, Is the oil pooled up in the spark plug valley?

Re: Oil Leak Problem

I had a sneaky leak once from the inner o-ring on the oil filter housing, between the cooler and the housing. It would spray odd directions and distances when the car was running.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

I replaced my oil cap with a parts store one and it leaked like crazy after a couple days. Not sure what the deal was, but it never sealed right. Oil would pool up in the valley like you are saying.

Did you get a new mitsu cap?

Re: Oil Leak Problem

my oil cap leaked really bad also and would make it pool up in the spark plug valley.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

Try a new Mitsu oil cap and seal; parts store ones are junk.

Re: Oil Leak Problem

So I took my car into Hugo Auto Tech.. and they fixed all my oil problems.. they taped the valve cover holes half were stripped out.. black rtv and new holes works great no more leaks.. and i bought a mitsu oil cap and that seemed to over that problem.. they also redid the seal on my oil pan and the o rings on the turbo line.. and good to go no more oil leak!
