"Lagging" when accelerating

My cousin's friend owns a 4g63 powered Colt and came to tell me about his friend's Colt. here it goes: When accelerating hard, the engine seems to lag, not turbo lag, but lag in revs. It'll go, but slowly go. I, personally have not gone in this Colt, but from listening to what my cousin told me, the colt lags in revs on full throttle. My cousin's friend did change/move the distrubutor around before because they thought it was boost leak, but it wasnt ( ) i'm thinking when they played with distributor, i think they either had bad or loose plug wires bad ignition coil. Dunno...any help!?. I did go to 1000 VFAQ and it didnt really help.... help!
MODS in the Colt
-6 bolt motor
-FMIC
-3" straight pipe
-no SAFC
-BOV tube pipe is not connected to turbo intake pipe
-hmmm....thats what i've been told. Will post up more when i find out more!

Re: "Lagging" when accelerating

A compression test/leak test would determine the health of the engine/pistons. that would be a start.

Re: "Lagging" when accelerating

You need a compression tester, it's quite easy, and explained in VFAQ.

I believe stock 6 bolt compression should be a little over 160. Service limit of 124.

Find out when the last tune up was done. Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter....

A less likely culprit, but something worth checking/cleaning would be a sticky throttle body. Mine was filthy when I took it off.

Here is two problem with your cousins 4g63Tcolt. One colts don't have a distubutor but power transistor. So if he has a distrubutor in his car than that is the problem. Number two you need to recirculate your BOV back into the intake pipe. Oh what year of colt is this? We need more info to help you! Dam noobs.

What turbo does he have on the car? If it is the stock one that FMIC could be affecting the way it boost.

Re: "Lagging" when accelerating

Do like others have said. Do a boost leak test for sure, check compression, replace plugs if it has been a while or they look like shit, check timing if you can or know how.

Think of the basics that make a car run and check them.

One of his mods is no AFC? What does he have, a potentiometer on the baro wire?

Re: "Lagging" when accelerating

i was suppose to go look at it yesterday, but my cousin's friend with the Colt was "busy". I'm not sure if it's the 14b or the evo3, but according to what i was told by my cousin, my cousin's friend with the colt said the owner before him hit mid to high 12s. My cousin also said it was hitting the 300 whp. 300 whp is alot for just the mods i put up. boost is set up at 15 psi and before this problem happened, he did have a boost leak somewhere, but i was never told where it was coming from. well, im pretty sure an AFC would solve something, but 300 without a afc might be pushing the engine. Oh yeah, supposively this motor in the colt is a "built motor" as what i was told by my cousin. I thought it probably has 2g pistons as it being "built", only problem is that dont know because i cant freakin see the engine in person. I've seen the car, not the engine. One other negative thing is that my cousin's friend doesnt even know much about the motor and the car itself...
