Exclamation starter issue ?

So I did a motor swap.

Car wouldn't start after vigorous cranking (first issue)

Then I realized that with dead time I can not run the 1600cc (no start problem 1)

Put in 880cc tuned the gm maft translator to accept them.

Went to crank her over, got two cranks before nothing but clicking .....

Trip to auto store proved my spare starter was good

My original starter (in car) blew the testing units fuse and breaker (yikes)

So Im guessing that was the issue

Put the spare starter in got one good crank , then sound of spinning starter

Went to crank again. Got nothing . No click no crank ....

I'm hoping I didn't seize engine from excesses cranking , or did damage to electrical system..

I have no idea what it can be. I checked fuses and grounds .... I'm at a loss..

Re: starter issue ?

Load test your battery it might be weak, make sure the teeth on the flywheel are good all the way around. And make sure the gear on the starter is solid and doesn't spin freely. Im pretty sure auto store just test it electrically and can miss if that little gear just spins, which might explain the spinning starter sound.

Re: starter issue ?

also, turn the motor over by hand to rule out a seized motor

Turns out it was a ladder of failures.......

Battery was junk
Starter burned out
Starter solinoids did too.
All without popping a single fuse.

Apparently there's a million different starters. I was under the impression they were all the same. Auto do no work with manuals ? Fwd work with awd ? But then they don't ? It's crazy....
