intermittion no start questions

im just getting done with my car, how often is it for a ignition switch to go bad? it starts sometimes, them you turn the key and no lights light up on the dash and nothing happens? i had this problem alittle bit last year.

im gonna try a new battery tomorrow. so is a ignition switch a probable cause?

Sounds like some kind of bad connection somewhere? Make sure the battery cables are tight

I agree on a bad connection, sounds like my problem when I had a bad ground.

It could very well be the ignition switch as you suggested. I've replaced one in my DSM, and about 5 more in other cars, same problem.

If the lights and everything turns off while the key isin the start position, it's not the switch. In that case, it's probably either a starter on it's way out, or a bad connection somewhere between the battery and starter.

Re: intermittion no start questions

Um, shouldn't a few more lights be on? like the CEL, coolant light and some others till the engine starts? I think the CEL light goes out when you switch from On to starting with the key, so If that doesn't happen then it is your ignition switch. Otherwise Its probably a bad connection. I fixed Alpha's car earlier this year with this problem, the bad connection melted off the wire that connects the starter motor to the solenoid

Re: intermittion no start questions

updated, i replaced the ignition switch with one from a dif shell, and i also double checked all my connections and it seems to be good. not sure if it was 100% the ignition switch
