Yea it was some damn good spool. I would've given up some spool for more top end though, which was why I got a tubular mani.

Here is the boost plot fyi.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Here is where we ended today...it broke up ignition wise up top but then we had oil everywhere. My shop is thinking a line, fitting or maybe worst case scenario the crank seal. Basically something on the timing cover side, which is like everything, appears to have leaked oil onto the belts which flung oil all over. Car is still running good though and they need to get it all cleaned up and find the leak. Hopefully I have it back next week.

We took it easy for the most part on the tune (don't need a repeat repeat). I think 6 degrees of timing at peak torque and 15 or so up top. The WGA seems to be a weak point here, it remind me of the FP 18psi. So I will be talking with MAP about that.

The turbo flows very well and can spool very well. We had to dial spool back A LOT!!!! We first saw 20psi at 3100 rpms, that is stock turbo spool. But we got compressor surge or something and had to dial mivec way back so you could even get enough fuel in there. It sucks a bit because I can't utilize the extra compression fully but oh well, its a nice setup I think.

Mainly all that is left on the tune is to fight the boost control to where we want it. We were aiming for 28psi.

PS: THANK YOU GOLDEN! We didn't have the newest omni 4bar scalings for psi boost control but got it off your website. You da man.

Game ON soon

OH! One more thing, Schiedes you should do an overlay (PRETTY PLEASE), here is my 500whp track tune before, and this is a straight e70 non pushing it tune.

Thank you sir! Most appreciated. So if I bumped up boost a bit this thing would really shine. But I like a running evo so I will stay where I am

Good power, going to drive it this winter? That would suck to have it finished and then not be able to drive it more than a month. Also, good call on not pushing the car too far, reliability ftw.

No winter driving anymore. I am too scared of some noob ass driver sliding on ice into my car and blamo dead!

I have my POS honda for winter now.

I also sold my winter tires and stock rims for my 1st motor build so to run in winter would cost me a lot of money, so no thanks. It makes driving the car all that more special when you take a break from it.

Nice numbers man! Was it what you were expecting? Hopefully you get it back sooner rather than later, I would love to see this thing on the cruise.

Also, if you plan on owning the car for a while, you will thank yourself for not driving it in the winter when you go to work on it in about 5 years and don't have to fight rusty...umm....everything. haha

I didn't really have any numbers in mind for this setup. I am happy though Or I should say I will be happy when I get it back.

Woot! Congrats man! Sorry but I couldn't help myself. Two good setups, mine is conservative on the boost (~30psi) as well but I don't think I have much more headroom up top where as I'm thinking you probably have a ways to go

Hope you get that leak fixed and go have fun with it!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I always love to look at overlays

I want to have fun with it, just gotta get the oil mess fixed haha. Yea we didn't really push it at all I don't think, 30ish psi is kinda a lot for the compression but not crazy imo. I think with a blouch wga like i had before this thing would pick up 3 psi everywhere and be beast mode.

Nope

Oh also I let Shane know I would wait for real E85 to push it a bit more so this is a true straight E70 tune, so I think another 30whp is still in this on a not ragged tune but who knows.

I just want a nice flat boost curve, 28psi all the way out. The tapering shit that we get on stock frames for the X sucks. The 8/9's can hold way more out up top. I was hoping the open dump would help a bit with that to get rid of some back pressure but doesn't look like it.

PS. car is pretty loud now, lol.

Holy shit your two cars make like the exact same power. Overlay of boost plots pretty plz?

The EF4 seems pretty laggy, or is that just in the tune?

Please do us all a collective favor and dont push your tune for a like a year. Mitsustyle sincerely would like to see your car at some meets and not getting worked on in the garage.

Did you heavily pretension your WGA? Once Andrew did that his EF3 held boost MUCH better.

We started with Shanes good mivec tables at first and I asked him after the first run, when did that hit 20psi and he replied, like 1800 rpms, lol

We had to dial mivec back big time in order to not get compressor surge or whatever we were getting. We could just not get enough fuel in there until it was slowed down. So yes, spool was slowed.

LOL, I hear ya, not planning on it anytime soon. I guess I didn't mean push it, but do an actual E85 tune vs. an E70 one.

The wga didn't have like any adjustment what so ever. There was only like 3 threads. Chris said they did that already at MAP for me so I didn't bother. I am not worried about it anyway. It is making awesome power already where its at.

Actual E85 is available so rarely(limited timeframe), it seems like a waste to tune for it. Do you have a content monitor to know what your mixture is in your car at any given time?

Nope, I would love the zeitronix one but its $$$$.

Honestly the only reason to retune for it is I am curious about the difference. I've seen some pretty big jumps.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Just got word, car is fixed and ready to rock well Shane needs a bit more time with it.

Here is what Danny said:

Big mess! small easy fix!** There is a bolt/plug that goes into the timing cover just above the crank damper.* What I think it is is an access hole to see something with the Timing chain tensioner, (but you can't see anything).* That came out and that's where it was leaking.* Got a new plug in there and sealed it up and everything is dry.* I think the wetness I saw on the pan when I changed the oil was probably some oil that was running down from there as the plug backed out and then on the dyno there was enough vibration to cause it to work the rest of the way out.* The torque spec is pretty light on that, so I sealed it up and tightened it a bit tighter than what the spec is.* I don't foresee any other issues with it.*
