There is a free software you can download. One is called TunerStein I believe and the other is called MMCD I believe. All you need is the wire that runs from the serial port on your PC and some sort of sync software to install the program onto a PDA. Once on the PDA double click it.
You will also need the logger cable for your car's diagnostic port.

I ran the PocketLogger software on a Palm M105. I tried out that freeware stuff just to see what it was like and it sucked. It was always crashing and locking my Palm up, and even when it didn't it wouldn't work quite right ever. The PocketLogger software was great, very stable and lots of nice little features.

I tried both of those shitty freeware programs and went right back to the PocketLogger software from Digital Tuning since it actually worked.

What exactly do I need for the whole datalogging set up? I'm thinking about getting one soon, but I need to get all the info on it first. All I know so far is what is on this page, so I have quite a ways to go.

Does anyone know of the Zire 21 Handheld Organizer? Is that any good to use for datalogging? I'm trying to look for something cheap that will work.
Okay, forget that one up there. I just got done looking at the compatibility chart and I guess that one doesnt work with the PocketLogger. All the ones that work are like $$$ as heck! :headache: Anyone still know of any cheap PDAs? :bounce:

Does anyone have a good diagram for making the cord for dataloggin ? I am going to be using a PC for the loggin, I believe you use a serial cable if I am right, then u can just put some electrical ends on it and clip it to the proper terminals in the diag port ?
Thanks -

The best, most compatible handheld for 1G/2G logging and even DSMLink is the Palm IIIc
you can find them on ebay for dirt cheap. i picked up mine like new almost 2 years ago for $100
then get a serial modem cable from syncablesolutions.com for $20 and you are all set
well, that and getting a proper ALDL cable (1G) or ODBII cable (2G) .. i think i have an OBDII cable around if you want to buy it

Whoa, thats not a bad deal. I thought I would have to end up spending $400 on a Datalogger. How does that set-up work for you? I'm still trying to get as many opinions as I can before I start spending.
Oh yeah...what is that ALDL cable you're talking about. I'm guessing it has the word DataLogging in there somewhere, right?

the aldl cable is what connects to the diagnostic connector of your 1G. i checked on ebay, palm IIIc's are going for like $50. Go to pocketlogger.com and buy their "DSM Pocketlogger" cable and software package for $125, and you're good to go.
Alternatively, you can buy a DSM/ALDL logger cable off ebay for really cheap and use the MMCD software, which is free.
Aside from the ALDL/DSM logger cable and software though, yes, all you need is the Palm IIIc and a modem cable from syncablesolutions.com

So I'll be spending about a little over $200. Thats a whole lot better than spending $400 on that other stuff I had in mind, haha.
How important is that Datalogger? If its not all that important right now, then I'll have to wait a few months to get one up and running. Unless its a MUST, then I'll have to get it next.

I have a couple of cables laying around. I'll ship one to your door for $22.00. I'll even throw in the software on a cd for ya seeing as how I have already got them burned also.

So you're talking about the ALDL Datalogging cables and that software? Its not broken or anything is it? Twenty-Two bucks doesnt sound too bad, after I get that all I need to get is the Palm IIIc right? I still dont know how soon its going to be until I get that Palm IIIC, with all the stuff I need to get for school/car and all it might be a while. But I can still get that cable and software now so I wont have to worry about it later. I'll think about it, give me a few days.
