adjusting solid lifters
the recommended clearances (or at least starting clearances) for the exhaust side is .010" and .006" for the intake. after setting them and re-checking them, they tick still. i started it before with a maximum clearance of .012 on the exhaust and .008 intake. that was loud.
it sounds mostly like it's coming from the exh. side, so is there a limit as to how close i can go? my .006 feeler is the smalles one in the group, i think. there might be a smaller one hiding in the stack.
i figure i'll keep adjusting in the smallest increments possible utill it doesn't tick like it's loose. If that's wrong lemme know. thanks!
Andrew

Re: adjusting solid lifters
i got the long 1983-only valves with this head i ordered in hopes of using a performance oriented reground camshaft, and since they remove material you can use hydraulic lifters with the long valves and have them close all the way.
plus, it's a muscle car and it's more involved than your new fangled automagical adjusting stuff. and i'm a pimp. hot drifting action. any more questions?

Re: adjusting solid lifters
What the hell car and engine are you talking about? I'd assume most people on a DSM board are talking about DSM's, unless specifically mentioned.

Re: adjusting solid lifters
Good luck with the lash adjustment on your Pinto. Put down the wrenches, I think you're in over your head.

Re: adjusting solid lifters
How can you guys not know?! It was only this doods name for like two years! I love how something like this puts the DSMers on their heads. Have you tried starquest.x-i.com or what ever it is...?

Re: adjusting solid lifters
Yeah, we should've figured out what the poster was talking about. Especially since their name was whatever on some board that nobody would waste their time reading anyways. Then they changed their name here, which everyone should know and care about. Then they post some vague reference to a tech question with no backround info whatsoever. I can't believe anybody here wouldn't instantly know what the hell the lame post was for in the first place. Stupid us.
Where's my ban button? Damn, wrong board.

Re: adjusting solid lifters
It's not a big deal. About a fourth of us have SQs. And we are so cool. I'd just stick with the service limits in the manuals and call it good. They are 'sposed to be loud...they are solid. If you want, you can go a bit tight on the intake side and a bit lose of the exhuast side...this will make more tq. Not that you need it...

Steve as a senior member. I am a shamed you did not know what this guy was driving. I would expect you out of all people to know who people are no matter how many name changes they go through. Keep up with the program ok. Just joking I can't believe some of the people we have on this board. Like the guy who called everyone an ass because we would not tell him who would when a race between and avenger and some other slow POS.
All I have to say is DSM rules. Well on Jack Stands.
