Ksport Coilovers

Hey I was wondering if anybody has ksport coilovers, and what you think of them? I was looking into getting some, because my struts are tiring out. I've heard Ksport are some of the best, and just wanted some more opinions. From the videos on youtube, they look very nice, and very adjustable...

Many people here have them, myself included. For the price, and adjustability, I love them. Sure, there are better setups out there, but again, price, you cannot beat. I like the smaller diameter/lack of a "spring perch" on these, so I am allowed to run wider rims/fatter 255 tires. With that said, keep lubricating the pillow mounts/camber plates on the top. And, I generally never recommend a full coilover to anyone driving in the winter, as salt/sand could be detrimental to these guys.

K-Sports are cheap; you get what you pay for. Yes they allow your car to be lowered, yes they'll handle better than stock, but don't hope for a smooth ride and don't expect them to last much more than a year or two. For a street car its pretty tough to beat an aftermarket shock/spring combo. Swifty is right about winter driving; the salt/sand will damage them in quick order.

I see... Maybe I will look into Tein or Megan Racing coilovers. I'm guessing my searching didn't help me find that do to the way I spelled Ksport. Thanks.

Just an FYI, after installing a set of the megAn coilovers on an evo, they are identical to Ksports.

I have had my Ksports for over a year or two, and haven't had issues with them. I've never driven it in the winter, and I lubricate the pillow ball mount/camber plate every oil change.

Megans are identical to K-Sports (same factory, different colors). Tein Basics aren't much better either, same with Apexi N1 EXV, Buddy Clubs, and pretty much all other sub-$1500 coilovers. To get a quality set of coilovers thats actually tuned and and designed with actual R&D you're looking at spending over $2000.

I have a set of Robispec Street KW's waiting to be installed. They were over $2k and are 2-way adjustable. To step up to 3 or 4 way gets into eye-popping prices if you are shopping KW or JRZ.

I have had my ksports for a year and a half with no problems and I couldn't be happier with them

Koni yellows, Ground Control perches, RRE upper bearing plates, Hypercoil springs. I've read the Konis and Bilsteins have the best shocks for the money.

I have some 2g K-Sport coilovers on the shelf...

I never got around to installing them, due to the stock motor giving out, new motor, parts here and parts there... and then more of this and that...

But as most have said, for the price, you really can't beat it.

**While reading this post please keep in mind that I have K-Sport coilovers in my car and have had them for over a year with over a dozen autocross events on them, and 30,000+ miles on my car in that time.**

Cheap coilovers are just that, cheap. You aren't going to get much for around $1000 but they will allow the car to handle better than the stock suspension, especially since no one makes aftermarket shocks for the Evo. If you want a comfortable ride then you do not want coilovers. Instead, get yourself a nice set of adjustable Konis and good aftermarket springs.

The valving in the cheap coilovers is marginal at best. There is little control in the middle of the stroke and the dampening doesn't start doing anything until the end of the stroke, for both compression and rebound. Numerous shock dyno tests have proven this, the cheap coilover simply do not provide linear dampening throughout the stroke. Once you get into the higher end coilovers in the $2000+ range you will find yourself with independently adjustable rebound and compression (two knobs instead of one) and dampening that is linear throughout the entire stroke.

Another word of advice is to keep them clean, use anti-seize on them and do not drive on them in the winter. I found out the hard way when I went to adjust the ride height and had severe corrosion between the collar and threaded shock body. It took a big bench vice, a lot of heat and elbow grease to get it apart.

Would I buy K-Sports or another cheap coilover again? Sure, they are an excellent upgrade for people who enjoy driving their car at the limit. If I were concerned about competing I would get something better. If all you want is a drop and somewhat better handling then just get yourself a nice set of springs.

I'm with Matt on this one. They are cheap and they do work, but they are not by any means a really good set of suspention.

+2. I have Ksports on my daily driver (summer) 1G AWD. For the money, they are great. But you get what you pay for.

What do you lube the pillow ball assembly with? A white lithium grease, graphite or a light oil??

It's funny, there is the same discussion happening on the CTS-V forum, and half the people hadn't even heard of them. Most of them looked at the price and dismissed them as junk haha. They all assume if you want a good coilover get the KW.

Well yea, and I agree with them, but they all seem to have quite the bankroll. Nobody thinks twice about spending $3k for suspension setup. Not cheap like DSMers that's for sure.

I have it on my 1G. I don't race it or anything. It works great for me.
