Re: CBRD/Blouche BBK/BBK Lite turbo for Evo 8/9
Seems like an IX can spool up to like 25psi by like 3300rpm with cams, good god!
Check out this combo, fantastic bang/buck:
94 octane Cenex pump gas
BBK turbo, ported
GSC S2 cams w/FP springs
ER Speed Density tune
ER intake
Garret FMIC w/ETS piping
Tial Q BOV (I need a softer spring though)
FIC 750s & Walbro 255
3" exhaust w/test pipe duh
Titek V2 o2 housing
BR ported exhaust manifold
AEM Tru-Boost
~ 28psi
Stock clutch, head(minus cams), block, intake manifold and throttle body.

Re: CBRD/Blouche BBK/BBK Lite turbo for Evo 8/9
that makes me want the 68HTA for my DSM. I believe that was rated at 47lbs/min which is about the same rating as the BBK right? A 2.3, E fuel, and that seems to make killer tq and still good power. Very nice!

Re: CBRD/Blouche BBK/BBK Lite turbo for Evo 8/9
I believe the BBK is in the low 50's lbs/min rating; I say this because the FP HTAGreen is 54 lbs/min and was a direct response to the BBK.

Re: CBRD/Blouche BBK/BBK Lite turbo for Evo 8/9
Dave, if you wanted something about like this and the BBK is in the low 50's (lbs/min wise) then Kevin_1g_Drummer has a Garrett 3076 which flows about 52ish, and should be able to have more top end than a 68HTA, yet still have quick spool with the ball bearing CHRA and the 2.3 combined...

The BBK Full is actually only rated at 47lbs/min, which is obviously under-rated. This is why I'm so pumped about the BBX and BBK-B which are both rated at ~57lbs/min without sacrificing much spool. With numbers like these, its hard to want more though.

Hrm, I'm liking these results, on cali-piss too! speed density and a non-cdi COP seem to be a good ticket for pump gas. :P

This Evo made 386 whp on 91 with the MAF, which already broke the standing BBK Full 91 oct record on our dyno (was 369). I took off the MAF, put a straight cone filter on and went to tuning the car on Speed Density. To my amazement the car responded really well to the SD conversion.
+17 whp peak gains to make 403 whp on straight California 91 oct. This is usually reserved for 35R+ turbos on our dyno. Now, a 100% stock looking turbo accomplishes this task.
403 whp / 330 wtq
24 psi
Next was E85 and it made a very healthy 455 whp at only 27 psi (car is tracked)
For reference:
Highest power on a Evo 9 stock turbo so far on our dyno is 403 whp / 402wtq (E85). This had the car doing a 11.4@120 mph, full weight, street tires, 300lb driver.
320-330whp will do 11.9-12.0 @ 115ish with a really good driver, full weight Evo.
Stock 03/04 evo = 190-210whp
Stock 05 evo = 210-215whp
Stock 06 evo = 220-230whp
Stock 08 evo = 215-230whp
Stock 09 Ralliart = 190-199whp

Is it me or is there hardly any difference between the non-MIVEC and MIVEC cars anymore?

I'd imagine that's true before they are tuned. The manufacturers probably care more about fuel economy than getting power out of it.

Early on there there was a clear definition between an 8 and a 9 with similar mods, but now you look at the graphs and power output between the cars listed in this thread and there isn't much difference.

How many lbs/min is a stock 9 turbo then? I thought the bbk full flowed more than that. Kinda scared now to purchase a bbk

Once the turbo is equalized, there is no reason for similarly modded 8's and 9's to make similar power. IX's however, can sometimes make equal power on stock cams, esp if its E85. Mivec mostly helps in the spool-up area, with cams like 4R's helping improve spool almost 500rpm over a non-mivec evo8.

IX turbo is like 43-44lbs/min, and the BBK is rated at 47lbs/min, but flows more like 54lbs/min. What's to be scared of? Cost aside, there is huge gains up top for very little compromised down low.

They are doing that on 91 octane. E85 is win.

If your car is in good running order and has a good parts combo, on E85, you'll do it easily on a BBK Full, and if you opt for the BBK-B it'll be more like 440 with ease. You're most of the way there already man.
