HTA turbos what they are cracked up to be?

I'm sitting here, yet again, deciding if I wish to *rather then upgrade to a huge turbo* fine-tune my setup. I have a t4 flanged 67mm PTE turbo ( I believe a 6776) but I am looking at the newer, quicker spooling, and more hp turbos, like the hta88 t04z. I can't decide if this turbo would be a good setup, or if I should jsut go bigger. I also couldn't decide if I wanted a t3 or t4 and use my current manifold. Anyone know what Borg Warner is coming out with, and what will it be comparable to? I can't find charts for the hta88 spool-up and power on a 2.0l (please, no evo, cause their heads just put mine to shame) but if anyone has ideas for me, let me know. I feel like I'm pretty much kicking my own ass here. I keep changing my damn mind on life.

All I have to say is the only difference between you and I when it comes to DSMs is yours runs. I kept throwing money at it instead of putting it together with what I had and enjoying it. Regardless if yours runs, it isn't tuned and you aren't having fun with it. Just stick with what you have instead of having something that could be fun and possibly fast, when it really isn't.

Get your car tuned and fully functional, enjoy it for a summer, THEN decide if you want to change your setup.

Re: HTA turbos what they are cracked up to be?

The HTA 67 is not a massive improvement over a regular 67. Keep the 67, everyone with bigger setups are moving back to it as THE setup to run. Bigger means way too much lag, inconsistancy, and not as much fun. Upgrade to HTA if you want, but otherwise I say just rock and roll on your current setup, maybe switch to E85 or meth injection so you get more out of it daily

As for HTA, it's a billet aluminum compressor wheel. They are also redesigned, smaller wheels that generally outperform and outspool (transient) their predecessor. PTE's new billet wheels are cheaper, sub-performing versions of this.

What is all done with the head? Have you tried adjusting your cam bears or at least degreeing them as a start? I would not change anything on your setup. Just fix any remaining issues and get a good pump/race gas tune on it and enjoy the car. Only rev the car high enough so when you shift its right back online.

Keep what you have and finish it, then make changes. Stop throwing new shit at this car.

Re: HTA turbos what they are cracked up to be?

Well to degree cams you need: the cam card for your cams, solid adjustable HLAs, a degree wheel, a pointer to indicate TDC, a few Dial indicators with special attachments to read the lift of the valve off the retainer, and a few hours of your time. We can talk about labor time if you want? This would make the cams do what the cam card says they should do, if thats what you motor needs to make power I do not know. Another and longer process would be adjusting them on a dyno to find a good power band for the setup, be happy you only have 2 cam gears to adjust, 3000gt's have 4. I did not know your head was stock, buy a stage 3 head or pay someone who knows what they are doing to port it, I would not try it your self.

This is recockulous. Keep it simple, adjust them a bit on the dyno, good to go. Thought you got HKS cams swiftster? Or wait, you got BC's......maybe that's your problem....
