Fancy Fuel System Questions

Ok, so I have been planning on going to a twin walbro setup.

Is the stock fuel line really even a limiting factor?

Twin pumps ran in parallel on all the time, will that overrun an aftermarket Aeromotive AFPR?

Are there any other problems from using a twin pump on all the time?

Is the factory return line adequate?

I can't seem to find 1/2" (-8AN) hardline for fuel anywhere. I have read it's kinda bad to run SS line all the way from tank to front of the car, for reliability, as the it is hose and will eventually collapse, etc.

My thoughts were: 2 walbros, -6 bulkhead fittings, then a y block into -8 all the way to a new filter and the rail. -6 return.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

kevin, come over and check out my car if you want. My car is twin 310 wallys, run in parallel, through the same setup, to the rail, then -6 to the ported aeromotive FPR (was on josh's stealth back in the day for his 3-pump setup) and then into the stock return. Only issue I had with this, is the fuel filter didn't flow what I needed, and my pumps over flow it. found this on the dyno, and after researching it more, i found the specs on the filter/pumps. I'll be upgrading over winter to something more like what mike (blageo) has on his car. I posted this for the talk guys..see if it helps you:

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

How much power are you going to try and make and how much boost? Still have the 1600s?

If its nothing too much crazier than what kind of power you make now I'd just get a boost a pump and a pump of your choice. Since you're a 1g I'd put an 044 in tank, BAP on that, and replace the feed line like Brandon said. If you out flow the lines you can always upgrades those later. I'm just cheap and lazy and to me the intake with a boost a pump seems kinda cheap and mighty easy.

I'd be curious to see what you do and how it all works out.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

What's the goal of the car?

The 1G stock Fuel Return system (with the exception of the AFPR) is capable of supporting probably anything you plan on throwing at it. I would not touch that if I were you.

The feed system is basically 3/8 line, and is also capable of A LOT. The weak point in the feed system is the banjo fitting on top of the fuel filter, and the next weak point is the filter itself. At your levels right now, what I'd do (which is the actual setup on my car right now) is run the stock lines from the pump all the way to the filter. But put on a high flow filter, and then a nice new -6 feedline. That is what I've been running successfully.

And I also run intank 255hp's in parallel.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

I didn't think you had enough fuel for the stock feed. hmm..nice! Either way, stock return is enough, my fuel system i HOPE is overkill for the future, since my plans are always changing.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

Hmm. You guys run twins in parallel, even at idle? All of the Evo double-pump setups use a Hobbs switch based on boost or something more sophisticated to turn on the second pump. Perhaps it's just an Evo problem with the return...

That would be way better than running dual all the time. I've heard of people not being able to run < 50psi at idle with twin pumps. All the ones I've seen are on all the time.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

C3L1CA, are you still on a stock fuel filter with the banjo setup replaced, or do you have an aftermarket filter?

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

Stock oem fuel filter with about 8k miles on it and have a -6 adapter so I'm running -6 from the filter to the line.

I wasn't going lean on the last dyno session was I once we figured out the crappy boost a pump dial?

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

If you want Brad, I have a pretty new russell performance -8 in/out fuel filter, that for your setup, won't be a restrictor. you can get adapters to turn the -8 to a -6 if you want it..let me know.

No, I don't think we were having any problems at all. I think we hit the nitrous at a lower boost level and made around 550awhp without any signs of fuel problems with your simple setup.

Would a nylon-lined braided hose collapse like the rubber ones?

And Shane, when i was in China, I drank some corn juice like that at a restaurant.

I have a 310lph sitting around if you want it.

I wouldn't worry about changing the line.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

I run a Nylon braided feed. No problems.

As for the duals working at idle, shouldn't be a problem at all on a 1G with an aftermarket AFPR. Stock FPR might be another story though.

Interesting. I know the Banjo is the weakest point. I was contemplating keeping the stock filter, and just getting an adapter to run a -6 feed. But the next weakest link is the filter so to be safe I decided to go ahead and use a higher flowing filter as well just to be safe. Good to hear that the stock filter flows enough for even Brad's setup, that's awesome.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

Ok, ill just do the twin 255s in tank, make a fancy way to attach them to the stock feed line, and get a fancy filter. Should be easy.

In reguards to the Hobbs switch, or Link controlled 2nd pump: I am worried about something failing and then NOT turning on the 2nd pump: BOOOM!

Same thing will happen if one of the two pumps fail.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

Yes, but it's just adding one more component to the list that could possibly fail causing a one pump scenario.

Re: Fancy Fuel System Questions

You going to build a motor to put the new fuel system to work or going to let the rebuilt one buck until she blows?
