Kdw-2?

I'm looking at getting some BFG KDW-2's. Anyone have experience with these? Also, do they have them in 235/45/17? thanks.

Re: Kdw-2?

Doesnt look like 235/45/17 is an option. 235/40/17 is though. Check the tire rack reviews too while you are there.

EDIT- Buy these. http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14335

Re: Kdw-2?

I know! I would like those, but I can't get anything right now-still working on the job. I might jsut take this job at Goodyear, and then get cheaper pricing on those tires-hopefully, the wheels too.

Re: Kdw-2?

KD's are pimp. And you want 235/40-17(this is what I have), not 235/45-17. If you want a 45 series sidewall, then run a 225.

I run 235/45 17. A 235/40 17 is going to be quite a bit shorter than stock. A high powered DSM is geared low anyway, so a little extra height helps. It actually put my speedo right on with my tires.

Re: Kdw-2?

That's why I wanted 45. I calculated the overa aspect ratio of the stock vs. 17" wheel/tire, and came to find that a 45 puts it right there. I think, IF i remember correctly the 45 is .28" shorter on the diameter then the stock setup, but then again, I did this math over a year ago.

Re: Kdw-2?

Back when I first started buying tires for my 17's. I was advised by Discount tire and Tire Rack to run either 215/45-17, or 225/45-17. When you keep going wider, you don't stay with the same sidewall # because it's a ratio of the width/sidewall. I'm sure you all know this. I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to still use a 45 series on a 235. Try the math again Anthony and let us know. Stock was 205/55-16 if I remember correctly.

Re: Kdw-2?

Using this formula: Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height
Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height
Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter
I came up with this for the 3 following sizes:

Stock: 205/55/16

205mm X .55 =112.75mm
112.75mm X 2 =225.50mm
225.50mm + 406.4mm (16"rim) = 631.9mm/25.4 = 24.878in.

235/45/17

235mm X .45 =105.75mm
105.75mm X 2 =211.5mm
211.5mm + 431.8mm(17"rim) = 643.3mm/25.4 = 25.327in.

235/40/17

235mm X .40 =94mm
94mm X 2 =188mm
188mm + 431.8mm(17"rim) = 619.8mm/25.4 = 24.402in.

Looks like the 40 profile tire is a bit more fitted to the stock size, but offers less sidewall "cushion" that the 45 does. 45 also allows for a slightly taller wheel/tire setup, meaning a LITTLE longer gearing.

Re: Kdw-2?

A 225/45-17 is basically the exact match. Going to the 235/45-17 makes about a 2% change in the speedo, most speedo's read at least 2% low. That is 1.2 mph at 60 mph. 235/40 isn't as common as the 235/45 either.

235/40/17 comes standard on my M3, and I think the 235/45/17 comes standard on Evo 8,9s?

Not sure about your car but yes, 235/45/17 is stock on an Evo.

Swifty, if you were looking at the KDW2s you were going to spend 130-150 a tire. The ones in Scheides link are 125 a piece and will smoke the KDW2s in everything except maybe tire wear. Look around on the Evo boards and notice how often people bitch about the cost of stock Evo tires. They want them again but dont want the price.

Re: Kdw-2?

If chris still has the tires, I'll buy them. But, I doubt he will when I actally buy tires. Plus, I now work at a goodyear, so cost is a bit less.

Re: Kdw-2?

I had BFG G-Force T/A KDW (the non-flame tread design) and loved them. Stiff sidewall, great traction and handling, and I loved the fact I could haul ass in the rain :-)
