Local Transmission builders

Are there any I need a transmission shimmed to spec.
One time stuff replaced and that is it.
Only problem with the big out of state places is the shipping will cost me more than the transmission.
So far I got Jacks lined up if I can't find a local place.
Thanks

Aaron

Re: Local Transmission builders

Transmissions were built by aliens and discovered by humans in the early part of the 20th century. It's no wonder they are so confusing. But I will be trying to rebuild mine someday. In actuality, it can't be all that hard. Just bold things in where they should go, right?

Only advice I have is don't use an impact on the bolts holding casing together like my dumb ass did.

Re: Local Transmission builders

tranny's are easy. theres a local shop over here if you need someone to do it. you could always bring it to ammco or something also. they do some good work. give me a call if you want

Re: Local Transmission builders

if you just need it shimmed back to spec anyone can do it. go out buy the 20 dollar small parts kit and tell your brother to hook a brutha up. just remember to but the ball back in the counter weight for the transfer case shaft

In all seriousness I've built probably two dozen dsm transmissions, most of them manual. I can help you shim it out/spec everything. I just lack the workspace to do it in. (I don't have a big bench in my garage yet).

FYI I am pretty much living in Blaine now off University and 118th.

Re: Local Transmission builders

I was always scared away by the shimming. How are you supposed to measure the clearance?

Re: Local Transmission builders

The shimming is what makes or breaks how the tranny shifts/feels. Thats why TRE and Shep will sell you all the parts you want, but they wont tell you the shim specs the use!
