Re: Over revving issue

And please, can we stop with the "why didn't you's", the "why are you's" and the "if i were you i would have's".

I have my reasons for doing things the way I'm doing them. Just gets to be a bit annoying when everyone just starts 2nd guessing you on everything. Did I some how evolve backwards and gain noob status again?

Re: Over revving issue

Got ahold of my uncle, and the head is done, so I picked her up and it's home now Said everything on the head checked to be pretty good. The finish on the bottom of it wasn't all that nice so he decked the bottom of it. Has a real nice n clean finish on the bottom now. I'm pretty excited, it's getting to be time to start putting it all back together now!

Noob. If I were you, I would have definitely not missed the gear, broke the axle, nor would I have blown the HG. Just silly imho. Why don't you go AEM w/NOS for moar power instead of silly E85, omg your MPG must suck sooooooooo bad!

See if you can get it back together before mine comes apart/goes back together! 2 weeks I think. We need some mid summer test & compare action mesathinkin!

Re: Over revving issue

That wasn't directed at you so much.

But either way, I'm not going to replace rings on a motor with what I consider good compression. My numbers have always seemed a little lower than what others show. I have a feeling my tester just reads a little low.

Last time the head was done up in Andover at a place called Northern Cylinder Head. Real nice guy, he's done a lot of little side things for me, and did a bit of work on my roommates rotary. Always had great results with them, but this one job I wasn't too impressed.

I like the finish that my uncle put on it now though, a lot nicer. Plus I got the nephew discount

Re: Over revving issue

Finished scraping off the top of the block with a razor. Nice and clean again!

Got the rods/pistons back in. Big thanks to Old Man Hill for letting me borrow his piston ring compressor tool, it worked perfectly. Torqued the rod bolts to 45lb/ft w/ ARP Moly Lube. Retorqued them 5 times because that's what I read to do on another forum.

Scraped the RTV gasket off the bottom of the block. Got a majority of it scraped off the oil pan.

Got the new L19's screwed into the block, and slid the new head gasket on over them.

Decided that's enough for one night. Tomorrow I plan on finishing cleaning all the gasket off the oil pan, then reinstalling it. Then start to bolt the manifolds back on the head. And then get the head set back down on top of the block.

Who cares if your compression a bit low as long as one cylinder isn't really low, just run more boost to make up for it. Ha ha.

Re: Over revving issue

I took a couple days off as I was researching cobra brakes.

So started back on her today. Oil pan is on. Head is on but not torqued. Got a new axle, thanks to Shane for getting me a good core.

Taking a break here but will be heading back out to torque the head down. Just going to research to see if you're supposed to torque L19's to a different value.

Then start working on putting the cams back in. Maybe get to the timing belt tonight, otherwise I'll just save that for tomorrow.

Re: Over revving issue

Got the head torqued on. I decided on 95lb/ft.

Got the cams in and torqed, kinda. I've tried to be real particular about placing everything into seperate plastic bags, but apparently I still managed to lose a singe cam cap bolt. If anyone has one, let me know.

Timing belt is on. Also put in a new tensioner pulley as well while I was in there.

Also picked up a new axle today. Thanks to Shane for hooking me up with an exchangable core.

That's it for today. Will continue on with some more tomorrow.

Re: Over revving issue

Thanks Texan

I've been working on it a little today. Got the accessory belts on, but left the A/C off for now as I don't even have a belt for that at the moment. Got the valve cover on. Most the electrical crap plugged in. Motor mount back in. Vacuum lines hooked up under the IM. Double checked that the oil pan bolts were still nice and snug.

Started to install the new Arc-2 Unit. I may just leave it installed but disconnected for a little bit though, just so I'm not doing too much at once here.

Also cleaned up all the grease that's all over the wheel well where the axle broke.

I'll be home for about another hour at the most, then going to a wedding. Call on your way over, or you can just get into the garage and grab it. 651.236.0985.
