Noise reducer on Alternator question.

So that little thing came on one of my alternators a while back, but I forgot how it hooks up and I don't want to risk blowing anything up.

I was wondering if anyone knew how it hooks up. I think the cable goes on the power side and the cylinder gets attached to the body of the alternator.

Any help is appreciated.

Aaron

Re: Noise reducer on Alternator question.

That must be what that lil threaded hole is for on the back of the alternator. Was trying to figure that out one day a while back... Never actually seen one of those on a dsm alternator.

I never have either and I'm 80-85% sure you are right, It came on a reman lifetime warrantied alternator a couple years back, so i just kept it. I remember that it made a difference with electrical noises in the car.

My old alty didn't have that part. The Reman did. Didn't feel/hear/see any difference. The dude at O'Reily told me it was for radio reception...wtf?

Re: Noise reducer on Alternator question.

There are a bunch of them around the car I thought. I am pretty sure that it doesn't go to the power but it is just grounded out. I think there is one on the intake manifold bracket.

IMO I wouldn't put one on the alternator

He's right, those thingys are small capacitors, they filter out high frequency "noise" that the alternator generates, which can help with radio reception/ amp noise from your stereo/etc.
That being said, I've never had one on my dsm, and my current radio can pick up all the St. Cloud radio stations from my house in Coon Rapids, so I doubt it helps much.
