Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

Don't sell the car because of an alternator problem. Any car can have that problem.

Now if it crankwalks though...

Naw, I'd sell it to move on to a more fun 4G63-based car. Something I've been considering for a while.

Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

I will eventually. I want to spend more time learning stuff on the Talon first, at the very least do the upcoming timing job. The Stang'll hit craigslist and probably a few other sites within the next month or so, but I probably won't be looking at selling the Talon until likely the end of this season. The whole shoutbox deal was me not being able to find the cars for sale section on EvoM, and people got inquisitive.

Now, back to my current issue...

Alternator's out, I'm going to go see if they'll honor the warranty for it. However, when the PS fluid sprayed all over, my belts and pulleys ended up getting soaked. What's the best way to clean them? Soapy water work, or should I use a degreaser?

Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

The saturn route is a decent amount of work to get it installed, probably not worth it. If you can't get a warranty one, someone probably has a used one in good condition for a lot cheaper, or hit up u-pull, they usually have some 2gs.

Don't use too harsh of a degreaser, probably not good for the rubber. Dishsoap usually works really well for me. Or just let them squeal.

Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

Thanks. I can feel the PS belt slipping when I go lock to lock quickly, so I'd prefer to get that resolved.

As for non-stock alternators, I'm using a 97 Galant ES alternator (rated 10A higher), and so that's what I'll be getting again (hopefully) under warranty.

Engine degreaser. Why not just buy a new alternator for a hundred bucks and be done with it?

My turbo oil feed line broke and got oil all over my alternator and fried it that way. Bring it in and have it tested.

Because he should be able to get a new one for free under warrantee.

Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

Fuckers didn't warranty my alternator because it tested fine on their machine (like their machine knows all). Doesn't test fine on my machine, and my dad "isn't okay" with clipping a wire to make it test bad. Battery tested fine, but we knew that, it's run my car for the last god knows how many miles.

So I'm supposed put the alternator back in the car, get everything charged, then drive to O'Reilly's and hope to god it gets me there, then leave it running until someone can come look at it, and hope it doesn't die while I'm waiting, then charge it back up and drive it home, hopefully with a new alternator in hand. I have no desire to put a bad alternator back in to prove that it's bad just to take it out again.

I'm sick of this bullshit, I want a working fucking alternator

Any way for me to test the wires with the alternator out of the car? That's really the only thing left.

Best way to get ATF off the belts? Get new belts. They aren't that expensive.

Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

I can give you a number of a guy that will rebuild the alternator, he's really good and less expensive than buying a new one, even with a core exchange usually. Rick Brutger of Auto Electric Specialists, Inc. 952-939-9373.

It's off Plymouth road in minnetonka.

Re: Spaz's Electrical Issues

Thanks for the offer Andrew, but I need this ASAP. Just getting a new one, for free, is easier.

And Craig, if you see this, it's a 97 Galant ES alternator. But at this point, anything that'll bolt on and work is fine with me.
