Talking 1982 TE27 corolla needs a motor!!!

well the car is full intact with no problems....i just need a motor and a tranny, mind you its RWD! im just trying to debate weather or not to go with a v-8 or a turbo 4-6 cylinder....i really want a turbo but if i have to go big i got no problems with that. i just want to get it finished by next summer so that i can roll it (and not push)

What are your plans for it? How fast do you want it? Since it is a Toyota you could go 2jz. I would also look at a LS1 swap, they are light and put out some serious hp. You could always put a wide block 4g64 in it too

I'd initially say 4G64 just because this is a Mitsu forum, but the 2JZ would be pretty neato too!

Re: 1982 TE27 corolla needs a motor!!!

How big is the engine bay? 2JZ is an inline 6 which could make for some problems due to its length, where the V engines fit a little better, and inline 4's since they aren't as long.

With something that light (~2400lbs), RWD, and fairly short wheelbase it won't take a lot of power to make it plenty fast, and just as scary so maybe a nice mild 4g63 or Sr20det would be the ticket. 350hp would be pretty nuts in that car.

Re: 1982 TE27 corolla needs a motor!!!

if anyone has a 4g64 wideblock and tranny i would definately take it.....but they are hard to come by in a 5-speed!!! and a 2jz would take alot more working than what i would like to do...so i know the 4g64 will fit as will the tranny because its about the same size engine as what was in there. let me know if any of ya got a 4g64 wideblock....thanks guys!!!

I say wide block 4g63, build the head, and rev it to 10k rpm

Wideblocks are cheap as hell, nobody uses them. I saw them for $150 at junk yards. Lots of vehicles came with them in. Do a little searching. They make an adapter plate to put the 6 speed from an F body in the car too

Theres a pretty good reference for wideblock swaps. You dont need to use the crappy 5spd or whatever came actually mated to the truck and I wouldnt suggest you do it... Starquest trannies are wideblock and will bolt right up to a wideblock 4g63/4 just like they would to the Starion motor. You can use a RX7 tranny too, but you'll need the bellhousing from a certain couple of years of Mazda B2600? pickup. The T5 and T56's are a good idea as well, I dont know for sure but I think the GM adapter plate will work for just about any V8 GM tranny. Look around the Project Zero G site, I think they have a link to a shop that sells convertor plates and other 4g63/4 RWD stuff for like 1/2 of what Buschur charges.

EDIT: Another thing you're going to have to think of is shifter position, depending on the engine/tranny you use you might have the stick end up in a weird spot.

Ooh, what about a rotary? My buddy has a '85 GSL-SE (first gen RX7 with the 13b) that we're going to drop a 383/T5 combo into... I'm sure he'd work out a deal with you for the whole engine/tranny stuff if you wanted it.

EDIT #2: Heres that site with T56 conversions stuff http://www.midwestturbo.com/
