Best piston choice for build

I am building a 1g motor with new rods and pistons. I was wondering what everyone prefers over the other for rod and piston choice. What else do I need becides rods, pistons, main and rod bearings, balance shaft eliminate kit, belts, and full gasket kit.

Daily driver, pure track car, weekend warrior? What kind of power do you ultimately want to go for? Nitrous?

I'd assume Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods would be enough if you were building a motor. Maybe you should get AWD first lol.

i doubt you'll overpower a stock 6bolt (correctly tuned)

1G big rods, and 2g pistons. people have run 10's with this combo plus its cheaper then buying forged pistons. Stock 1g compression is garbage, its 7.8:1, so go to 8.5:1 or something around that good for pump gas and makes more power.

Not worth the machine costs if done correctly.

Just go weisco on eagle, its proven time and time again, and very cost effective.

Ok so i found the wiseco piston and eagle rod setup as a combo for like 750 shipped. Is this a good deal? Should I get the 20 over or will stock be fine? thanks for all the help. It will be a half way daily driver/weekend car. I am getting my tranny done by team rip engineering and I am doing the performance setup with a taller 5th gear and the cheaper limited slip. I found that the pistons have seen 900 HP and the rods eagle sais will hold 800HP so i dont know what I will end up with for power in the end but will hvae around 450 with my supporting mods right now. also what do 550s hold up to for power with a afpr, and 255.

Have you spoken to TRE? If so, what kind of turn-around time have they given you? Like I've mentioned somewhere else around here, I have not seen a positive customer service review of TRE on any forum in many months.

As others have said, 2g pistons on 1g rods are a proven combination. I recommend using ARP rod bolts, headstuds, and main studs (if you decide to use ARP main studs, use the CRCO dowel kit as well). Going with the eagle/wiseco combination gives you a little more peace of mind.

I recommend TRE to anyone interested in a transmission build. I have over 70k miles on my TRE transmission and have yet to have a problem with it. I have the basic rebuild with double synchro 1st/2nd. Shep racing is also a great transmission shop.

Don't bother with the ARP mains, they are totally unneeded at your power level and can cause problems. Eagle/Wiseco is the way to go for a street car. The big rod/2g pistons work well too, but aren't worth the money unless you find a set that is already machined and ready to go.

I have run eagle/wiseco 8.8:1 for over 20,000 miles and higher boost levels/power without any issues.

A local guy put down 423 whp with a 550's and a buschur 20g. The 550's were maxed though.

How much does it take to get the 1g big rods machined out to fit on 2g pistons? I'm in the same spot, if its going to cost alot, I think I am going to go with a 1g big rod and wiseco setup. I dont have that much money so I dont think I will be getting any Eagle rods, but some o/s pistons with new rings, straight cylinders, and higher compression would be nice.

1g big rods with Wiseco's should be a setup good to over 500whp (if properly tuned) and be very cost effective.

I'd still recommend eagle's.
Eagle's come with ARP hardware, stock rods don't.
Eagle's are already converted with floating pin, stock rods need to be bushed.
A good machine shop will charge you $150-200 for the rod "work" . Eagles are not that much more.

I went with JE .20 over pistions and eagle rods because i already had a rod shoot through my block, and i defintly dont want that to happen again expecially after all the money you sink into these machines.
