I agree. It is pretty amazing that they CNC that wheel, that has to take a TON of time! They don't have their speeds and feeds right for machining either, notice the "specs" on the fins. I would have thought they would have tumbled them afterwards to smooth them out more.

I'm thinking they're left there on purpose, to direct airflow a bit like mini vortex generators.

Yes, they are part of the design!
I suspect with some more tuners getting their hands on these we will see some better results. For these bigger turbos, my vote would still go to the HTA35R though, as it makes 37R power and awesome midrange torque. Another guy just made 550whp on pump gas with one yesterday!

I don't know. Personally I'd rather pay for good FP stuff that lasts forever than buy cheap turbos that crap out all the time. Considering my bi-yearly turbo upgrade plan, the HTA88 is probably on my list for next year.

I think its pretty good for just recreating the wheel! We buy an intake for just about 15-20hp..

Even though Buschur said he won't test the HTA 37R because he was satisfied with AMS's test, I think he should still do a test using his mitsu style housing. I am also waiting to see results from others who didn't go with the FP changes and just HTA their regular 37R.

More results, this time in a car with buschur's cast manifold and what is basically FP's cast DSM turbine housing (somewhere between a .68 and a .84).

I had kinda figured they would have used an extnded tip design on the HTA wheels. I've never been able to find a good picture of one. But looking at that picture, doesn't appear to have extended tips.
I agree, I'm done buying cheap turbos, hence the reason I paid a bit more for one that is "supposed" to be built to last. We'll see.

Do the smaller BWs last? I know some of the Honda guys were complaining about the S372 sized ones not being as durable at the GT42Rs.

I can say that i am torn between the both of these turbos if i need to get another, but so far FP wins for durability because of lack of history of BW
