CEL code 44 ignition coil

I have a 92 tsi awd w/ 130k. The car threw a CEL tonight, I checked on the logger and it says "44 Ignition Coil" The car stumbled and misfired, but I reved it and it idled normal again. Does this just mean I need a new coil? Is it common for the coil to fail near 130k?

Re: CEL code 44 ignition coil

Check and clean the connection at the power transistor. Often this connection gets corroded (especially up here) and can cause intermittent connection. Also make sure you have the retaining clip installed. You could also have a failing power transistor. Most severe problem is going to be the ECU. Might not hurt to check this as I had one that did the same thing as you described and several weeks later heard the infamous clicking in the console.
