Clutch engagement right off floor.

Okay, so when I bought the Galant it needed a clutch, bad. And I had bought CornFed's used one from his car. I put it in the car and it works fine. Just the clutch engagement is right off the floor. I tried bleeding the clutch system multiple times and even messed around with the pedal adjustment. Neither worked.

So I have read about shimming the pivot ball on the trans when installing some aftermarket clutches do to this reason. However, most of the reading I have done leads me to believe that if the clutch fork is centered in the opening than there is no need to shim it. And with the trans in the car right now it is pretty close to center.

So would I still be able to shim it just to try and get the pedal engagement up a little more off the floor? Is it gonna hurt anything in the long run? I am getting ready to pull the trans to put the other one I got in and want to take care of this now that way I dont have to pull it again.

Oh clutch is a Comp pressure plate (equal to act 2600) Comp stage 4 sprung 6 puck. Thats the info I got when buying it.

Try a longer slave rod.

Does those really work? I have read mixed reviews on them. Some people say its like a bandaid for the problem. I have never had a clutch like this so I am just learning on these.

I just went ahead and ordered one from MAP. They are cheap enough that I cant go wrong.

usually it's a bad slave cylinder, next would be bad master cylinder.

So far neither of those are leaking. But as far as I know they are stock from 91. So those might be on my list of things to change.

i like my clutch right off the floor but i guess thats just me 0.o

It might just be that I am not used to it. And the trans probably played a part in it also. Having no 1st gear and having to start out in 2nd was a chore. But I am trying to remember if it had any grinds going into gear while driving, but i dont recall any. I did only drive it after the clutch replacement for like 2 weeks.

Even if it isn't leaking, the seals can be bad. Slave cyl is my guess. Then get on yo back like a monkey and adjust that pedal!

I will have to look into adjusting the pedal again. Cause if I remember right its almost at the end of the rod.

Is it worth just rebuilding the master and slave instead of going with new? I can get the rebuild kits cheap. So I was thinking thats maybe an option.

i had that happen with my clutch and it was as simple as adjusting the rod on the back of the clutch pedal. it may not fix it but you should never overlook the simple stuff.. its usually the problem
