Evolution IX Swap
I hope this is the right spot for this. I've got a buddy that was wondering if a evil IX 4g63 would fit into a 2g eclipse convertible gs. Make the convertible awd with the evil xi 4g63. He knows a friend that is selling the whole engine with trans, etc. Thinking about putting it in. I know that there is people that have put in the older eclipse 4g63 into a gs convertible and run awd but never seen a evil IX 4g63 into a eclipse gs converitble and run awd.
Can the process be done?
Thanks

Re: Evolution IX Swap
can it be done? yes.... will it be hard?? yes... can you have just as fun of a car with the built 4G64 thats in there??? of course. I would say if you looking at spending that much, pull the 4G64 out of that car, build up the block and get a 63 head, and then a gt35r probally would cost about the same after everything is said and done imo

Re: Evolution IX Swap
to get it to work will will need the engine mounts that are welded to a rs or gs hard top. then just put them into the your shell and take out the spyder mounts.
you will have to run the evo engine harness and ecu and splice in to the main eclipse harness to get all the gauges to work, ect. In the end you will have way to much money into the swap. just build the 2.4 bottom end and slap a 4g63 head on it and call it a day.
Just do it the easy way and that is coming from they guy that does crazy swaps

Re: Evolution IX Swap
Anything can be done, but that motor/tranny setup is backwards from DSMs. You would also have to make sure there is room for that big Evo transfercase.

Re: Evolution IX Swap
I think he wants to know if it will just bolt it. The answer is no. It can be fabricated to fit in there. Anything is possible with enough time/money/skill

Re: Evolution IX Swap
I know that it can be done. My cousin will be willing to use up 10,000 for the swap to be possible. He has a cousin that will be selling the engine and everything that comes along with the engine for 3,500. How long will it take to get everything put in? He can't do it himself but will be willing to throw it at a shop to get it done.

He is willing to use 10 grand for the swap to be possible. Anyone done the swap before? Remember this is his words. Any shop or anyone done that kind of swap before?

Re: Evolution IX Swap
I could do it as long as you have all the parts to start with. 1/2 up front

Re: Evolution IX Swap
I'll talk to him and get back to those that are willing to help put it in and all the other crap. Money will be up to him. Not sure who he needs it to be done by. How much would it be for labor total (est.)? He got all the parts that will be needed from the evo but the mounting kit.

Re: Evolution IX Swap
Does the 10k have to include the cost of the motor, tranny, transfer case, rear diff, drivesshaft, axles, fuel system, ecu, wiring harness, turbo, intercooler, piping, etc?

Re: Evolution IX Swap
Well Actually, the 3500 is alone itself. And the 10,000 is for whatever needs install everything and tune the car to its correct stage.

Re: Evolution IX Swap
I have heard its easier to do an evo swap in a NA eclipse because the mounts are backwards.
With 10K you could have a built 2.4l, giant turbo, fuel system, fmic, awd and probably more. WAY better then just a stock evo engine! Money could be better spent
