Pulley rattle?

This isn't on my DSM but its on my dd, want to get the problem fixed if its going to cause any damage. Anyway, the engine is making a rattling noise, kinda sounds like old metal machinery, a metallic rattle like noise. It seemst to be coming from around the pulleys. Is the sound pulleys make when they are going out? Is there anyway to check them? Any help is appreciated!

Re: Pulley rattle?

Just make sure that the pulleys are tightened down evenly. If it is not it will rattle and sound like shit. I just had the same problem on my 1G when I did the timing belt. One of the pulleys must have went on unevenly and I tightened it down and it eventually worked its way on the right way and then rattled. I tightened it down and the rattleing/knocking went away.
