paint the engine bay?

I am in the process of taking everything off the engine (sold the mani/nos) and re-coating hte exhaust mani, so that turbo intake, pipes, radiator (gotta fix a fitting-rubbing on rubber boot on top of trans) and all that will be left is engine, trans, and wires. I will blanket the motor setup, and such but how is everyone spray painting their engine bay? spray simple green on a rag and wipe down or what? then sand, primer, base, clear?

If there is existing paint and you are just redoing it in the same color I wouldnt even primer it just sand very well and paint/clear if wanted. Just make sure to degrease/sand very well and clean EVERYTHING off extremely well before painting.

Re: paint the engine bay?

Just make sure everything is clean as hell. The hard part is getting in all the little nooks and shit to get dirt and grime out. If you're just doing it in black again, I'd just shoot some automotive grade black spraycan shit, and be done with it. It's not really a high traffic, frequently touched and rubbed spot on the car really, and it's going to get dirt and shit from the road in there anyways. plus if you're going to clear coat it and put a shitload of time and effort into it, It's still more than likely going to get scratched and dinged up anyways when you're working on it. Anything I've ever done on the inside of an engine bay has just been a coat or 2 of some regular old spraycan stuff with no clearcoat, and has been just peachy (I've also only sprayed over with the same color too though). Just my .02, have fun

Re: paint the engine bay?

ya i'm keeping it black. I got a quote for the engine bay getting painted when i was quoted for the car, but i have no room or will to pull the engine out, so htat will wait, and i'll just spray it myself.

Re: paint the engine bay?

Consider how much work it will be to strip everything out **and** to put back properly without f-ing something up. You might want to consider just dropping the whole driveline out the bottom.

Then don't bother painting it. Take the 3 hours to pull/reinstall it.

Re: paint the engine bay?

Painting engine bays is the dumbest thing I've ever heard, why the hell would any dumbass waste time pulling the engine to make the engine bay look pretty? WHO CARES WHAT YOUR ENGINE BAY LOOKS LIKE! Its for ricers anyways, having a shiny engine...

You sound like a flaming queer. Obviously, HE cares what his engine bay looks like. Honestly, no one give a fuck what you think, especially when it comes to someone else's car. Go spread your failure in someone else's thread, douche

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic. He had his own paint-my-engine bay thread a few months ago.

Of course I'm all for painting an engine bay...... but pull the damn engine and get every spot, then do a wire tuck. Why half ass it if you're gonna actually put some work into making something look nice...
