Re: team ab drag race and street builds

ok the clusters are at my local performance tranny shop to get those end bearings off so for the time being anyone want to talk clutches for our cars this year? I will be shifting @ 9-9.5k and not sure about andre yet. he may got less say 8-9k.

i will run drag at pg and do some street driving for sure. My car is not a track only beast yet.

Yep, twin disk. You will get some looks on the street because it makes some noise, but works great. Do the clutch slave replacement to give you some more engagement play.

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

Thanks guys we are for sure going twin I guess the pick one option is the game? We were thinking ptt with high torque plate and metallic disk. I am aware they sound like crap, just want a good clutch at a good price really. Something that I can use on streets and drag race

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

I used a quartermaster twin disk with HD gear drive disks. I had the bronze ferrometallic race disks in it when I had a 5 speed in the car. I drove it all over and had no driveability issues with it. I also used the competition clutch fork that is clearanced for the twin disk. The engagement was smoother and the pedal force required was less than the old 6 puck ACT that was in the car before. It does sound like you are at a train crossing when you are on decel from speed so you get some funny looks, but It was a good clutch that holds a lot of power.

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

must have taken out 100 lbs tonight, crazy how much crap you don't need when you really start to think about it. next steps are degrease the bay and start sanding to prep for paint. also considering getting some buckets on the cheap to get rid of the heavy seats. I added up my trans parts from jacks site and looks like ill have $1,400 isn into a rebuild with a 4 spider. kinda depressing but at least i'll know its a good trans. Just never ended up finding that known good trans for cheaper so I guess thats my option. I think i'm going to make up a lexan rear window this year also to save on a little more weight until i get a carbon hatch. other to do is ptt twin disk, 2150's, timing belt, maybe turbo upgrade, 4th rear diff mount, need some diff wheels and tires and all the little things that add up to big money and hope to make pg1

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

some updates, I have a new trans in route from canada. also I tore apart andre trans and lucky we did as we found a shim inside the center diff just waiting to be eaten up in there. Also his motor is now fully assembled and timed ready to drop in. sorry about the crappy lighting.

No. Do not get a PTT. It has major flaws and the designer blames it on the tranny builder or installer of the clutch. Mine blew up on a 2nd gear pull and stripped all the splines off my input shaft. Get a QM from TMZ performance. It has a great feel, is very streetable , and holds power. I'll be shifting at 10k with rev limiter set to 10.5k

Build looks like its going to be awesome

Tim Zimmer is def the man to talk to about clutches.

This also looks bad ass if you have the coin:

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

I agree Tim zimmer is da bomb but I'm actually going to give the competition clutch twin a go this year. They were very interested in my feedback on the clutch and what Rpms I can shift at smoothly.

Andre is deff running the ptt twin this year though so hopefully we both have a bit of luck

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

I tried fiberglass for the first time to make a duct for the turbo. I never really knew how easy it was to work with, I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Basically made it run over the flange on the compressor housing so I couldn't just accidentally drop something in turbo when working on it. Got my tranny and motor installed and starting to weld some v-band stuff up and intercooler piping. The front facing manifold is kinda making everything a total nightmare. The hood I got from cornfed hits on the manifold and not sure what I am gonna do to get around that. I am pretty sure any stock style hood will not work. The Seibon is essentially only 1 layer thick were it hits. Also intercooler piping is a pretty big challenge between the radiator support-intercooler it is a pretty tight space. I am open to suggestions on hood if anyone had any thoughts or maybe a better style of hood.
What do u guys think?

This is just an idea; VIS' G Speed hood. I personally have always liked their look and I have to imagine they have more clearance. Here are a few photos.

dsmDolney just bought the above car with that style hood. Maybe he could chime in on how much clearance there in over a stock hood.

Re: team ab drag race and street builds

Yeah I like how that hood looks as well. I messaged dolney about his. Still not sure if it would work or not. Gonna probably end up just cutting a hole in the hood just sucks cause I really like the hood the way that it is. I am pretty sure I could send it back to john at force and he would remake it for me. He never ran it so he has no idea that it was interfering with being able to use a hood I am pretty sure and he seems cool just not sure how long something like that would take him to get to.
