Nice work. Hope everything goes right so you can make it to the track this year. Still planning on doing a 2.3 motor over winter?

For now, no. I really need to save money and get a house.

I'm a bit more than thinking about it, although my wife said to just wait and see what happens before I plan anything.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Well I've been slacking on this a bit and well the longer I leave it the more work it is to remember stuff and the less I want to do it.

Anywho, I got to the track after staying up till 130am.
first off I have to say a GIANT THANKS TO MAP, MUNCHGSX, and my old friend Jesse MAP got my turbo rebuilt in no fucking time at all, and I stayed up late friday getting it back together and did some small tuning adjustments.

I didn't get any pics that night because I was working my ass off really. But once Jesse and I got my car together, filled all fluids, we took it out for a spin and boy did it feel good. I took it to a local retailer parking lot after hours and adjusted the tune a bit on the launch which was good, sadly a local cop saw me sitting there making adjustments and didn't appreciate my presence. Thank god he didn't turn up 10 mins earlier.

Anywho I slept for maybe 4-4.5 hrs, got up nice and early made sure the car was ready to go and waited for murlo to get his make-up done.

The drive there was pretty uneventful, however tech was fun. Soon as I got into the tech lanes, my car was smoking. Someone moved one of the clamps too close to the end of the pipe it was on and it cut thru one of the hoses, no biggie thanks to 93gtpeater's suggestion I just looped the lines and went on with my day. A pain in the ass, but oh well new hoses and clamps are on (as of today 10-11-12).

Finally I get into the staging lanes. I decide that I will not make any full passes until I get consistant.
I wanted to get staged before the next guy so that I could do all my business, well this sob fucking gets ahead of me! oh well, I'm not concerned I get boost up to 20psi and let her buck.
1st gear just destroy tires, almost like sliding on ice, the car grabs seconds and starts to move but I can feel all the tires just spinning but the car is moving now about 50mph the car is moving it jerks into 3rd and then into 4th so I let off, it didn't feel like anything spectacular so I figured why not.
I roll around and get my slip:
Car 4016, left lane.

Holy crap a 1.59, finally this auto thing is starting to work a little bit. I'm digging the 7.1@97mph that's the best I've ever done. I'm happy now because it's the first pass and I'm finally using the auto's "magic".

Next pass, not so great I didn't get it all the way up to 20psi and the car knocked a little bit.

It still does 97mph in the 1/8th so that is a good sign. However it's starting to smoke quite a bit out of the back, i get sent to tech i tell/show them the dipstick is pushing up its nothing to worry about and I'll check it each pass.

3rd pass, the car knocks its face off, I tried to wait longer this time but it was just no good I lift and then back into it in 2nd.

I tried to stay in it a bit longer in 4th but it smoked pretty good again the officials stop me at the end and ask about the smoke, i tell them its fine and all is good.
At this point I'm frustrated, the track is gonna hassle me, I know the car is down on power a small amount because the night before I didn't cure all my boost leaks and I need some better crankcase ventilation.

I got to meet some new people at the track and see some damn nice cars, it was a gorgeous day and I took a new way back thru some back roads that had some twisties and damn good scenery. While at the track, I'm making a list of everything I need to change so that I can make it back.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

10-11-12:
So before I purchased a catch can I wanted to make sure that I could get it to fit in a place that I would like.
Enter mock catch can:

I had my crafty wife make this for me one day, at first I wasn't getting anywhere with it because I had to figure out where the outlets, inlets, drain, and sight glass would be. So I drew them on there and it helped out a lot more.

10/11/12- My HAL single -10AN oil cap, this will take place of the PCV system eventually. Amazing piece, I'm hoping it will solve my crankcase issues enough for this year.

10/11/12- oil cap mocked up, this actually took a little bit of work to do. I have a 90* AN fitting to hose barb to attach to it once I have it face the T-belt, that way it will point toward the firewall.

10/11/12- Mini battery thanks to Tachyon.

I still need to figure out a mounting bracket for it, but god damn does it free up some room I'm totally loving it I just hope that it works.

I also ordered this today:

Hopefully I can get some shit done that continously bugs me.

One of my boost leaks was my EGR blockoff, never in my life have I heard of this issue so I pulled off the intake, hopefully tomorrow I can get it fixed and put back on the car.

Mini batteries are great until you have to start the car.

Yeah, after 5-6 mini batteries, I'll never do that again. The small Honda ones don't work too bad.

I've had no issues with mine in about a year. It's rated at 200 CCW, and to be honest, has stated my car with a lot more authority than my 660 CCW batter did when it was rear mounted.

But I also don't have subs...

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Well the fact mine was completely drained and it's over 10 yrs old means that it needed replacing.

This was cheap enough and allows enough engine room I'll give it a whirl.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

No pics, but I did get that small battery installed along with my new cap and intake manifold, only to have the intake manifold gasket be all kinds of blown.

BLT couldn't even get above 20psi without working the compressor like a bitch. womp womp.

Hopefully today I'll get some time to grab a new one and snap some pics.

What battery is that? I'm going to be installing one in the Lexus this winter and was gunna just run a fleet farm lawn mower battery, but still considering all options.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

It's what I ran in my talon for several years. I'd replace it every year with a new one, but they were only $20 after core so not a big deal really. 275ca/230cca and never really had an issue with it not cranking it over, however I rarely started it in the winter so not sure how great it'd start a car on a cold January morning.

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/151268761-post32.html

Been several years since I used one so hoping they still have the same ones. Usually Fleet Farm and Walmart would have them.

Edit:
Pretty sure this is the one I ran. Looks like it's available at several stores locally. Just need to buy the terminal adapters to make them posts.
