And this. I still say scrap it and get a NEW evo3 16g, they make 20g power and none of this BS about restricters and oil feed lines and whatever else. Talking about evos and FP and other turbos and different restricters taht should and shouldn't be here or there or anywhere is just pointless. Check the list that shane posted, see what applies to your turbo, and stick with that. Go with what the manufacturer recommends, nothing else. If it keeps blowing, tell the manufacturer to take a hike.
I'm sick of seeing these threads jullian. Don't do rebuilds for people with unsure oiling setups, figure out setups that work and do them right or don't do them at all. People with street-driven cars should not have to RE-REbuild turbos over and over until they guess the right combo, it is SO painful to see this keep happening locally, I cannot stand it.

he asking for advice and im am kind of at a loss. i have driven over 400 miles to help him, so its not like i have not tried my best. he has asked for a solution and if he would not have even mention my name im sure this thread would not be 3 pages long! i will work on my sales to the hybrid setups from now on, i still will work with him until it gets resolved no matter what it costs ME.
the strange fact of this turbos is that he drove it all last summer no problems, then he starts it this year and it begins to smoke. kinda makes no sense after all the miles he put on it...

Unless you open a shop and plan on doing this full time, I would prefer you didn't do it on here. We have vendors that pay to be on this site, please respect that.

Re: What Oil Restrictor do I need?
To answer your initial question, a .100" restrictor should work, but I would personally run it off the head, thats where Mitsubishi put it for their turbos, I would also see if that restrictor cup is in the inlet, cause if thats there, you should not need a restrictor at all. Even better, someone could measure what size hole is in that lil cup then we will know what size should be used in the event that is missing from a Mitsu turbo in the future.

Re: What Oil Restrictor do I need?
Im pretty sure this is pretty standard 4an.
and this is what was underneath it, the restrictor is INTACT its hard to see because of the picture but theres a wee little pinhole in there.
I'm going to put it alll back together tonight. If it runs right good if it fails im going to take it off and send it to FP.
Julien said he would pay for Half of it. Hopefully it works fine, if it doesnt hopefully he comes through ( I did give him $550, a 24pk of Corona, and a 60Trim for this 20g and $50 this week for driving.)

Re: What Oil Restrictor do I need?
If that restrictor is still in there, It should be limiting the oil pressure so you shouldn't need a restrictor on the line to the turbo. It also means that the 20g is going to need new seals.

Re: What Oil Restrictor do I need?
Yeah, takes a few miles to burn out the oil the exhaust... Must have been the issue.
