powerband cuts out around 5 psi

my buddies 95 eclipse gst powerband seems to be cutting out once under boost. it seems to slowly die down to 5psi and holds there. The motor sounds like the ignition is cutting out and it is really boggy. and every once in a while it will backfire under this boost. could this be something to do with the coil packs? or something completely different. Thanks!!

Always do a boost leak test first thing and then go from there.

Replace plugs, make sure they are gapped correctly, boost leak test.
