Clutch problem comes with surprise.

Today I had the time and the chance to tear apart my car and see what was going on and I found the problem with a surprise. There were 2/4 rubber parts on my disc that were completely gone and all over the inside of my tranny. My pressure plate was not tight to my flywheel with one bolt loose and scratching an arc in the inside wall of the tranny. And the surprise was this plug behind the flywheel that holds oil inside the block, whhich for some reason has not loosened but doesn't have a tight seal so it has been pissing oil inside my tranny and coated my disk and clutch in oil. I have pictures to show you what has been going on.

How and what kind sealant should I use on this plug to keep this problem from happening again? What could cause this plug to start leaking if it makes a seal when it is tightened? What causes those rubber parts to disintegrate like this?

Re: Clutch problem comes with surprise.

Has your motor been rebuilt? If so a NTP plug may have been used instead of a BSP plug (just slightly diffrent). a few 3S guys have had motors rebuilt and had issues with NTP vs BSP plugs, and oil leaks.

The clutch disc breaking like that isn't all that un-common.

Re: Clutch problem comes with surprise.

I have had and seen disk problems with these cars a lot. Buy a new high quality disk or clutch kit. Mitsubishi stock, or OS/Giken based clutchs are all good options. I would think someone pulled that plug out at some point and did not put any sealant on the threads and/or did not torque it to spec. I would take that plug out (8mm allen) use plummers dope and torque it to 33lb/ft.

Re: Clutch problem comes with surprise.

This is a fully rebuilt block from QPR. Some people will remember this car. I think I might buy another 2600 kit, since I liked the feel and grip of it. I'll have to ask my cousin if he knows at all which kind of plug it is, but I doubt that he will even know. If anyone happens to have BSP plug that I can have would be awesome. I'm also trying to find a bad A/C bracket for my pass side axle so I no longer have to use washers that wore out the bearing.
