Re: beaterX project thread
From garret's site I think it's p/n 703522-6004, supports 785hp and weighs 19.8lbs. Add some endtanks and I'm sure it'll be closer to 25. Or its the PTE core 051-1132 same specs and supports 975hp.
Either way it is a nice upgrade and will put concerns about the other intercooler to rest.

Sounds like a very practical spring dyno day goal to aim for.

Re: beaterX project thread
Usually you want a core that is rated for 50-100% more power than what you actually plan on making at the wheels, if you want it to not be a flow restriction and actually cool worth a crap. I have never had a car in with too big of an intercooler, but see cars with too small every other day.

Re: beaterX project thread
^Word, hence my old car having a core rated to 750whp and me making 450ish at most.

Forgot to ask--did you have appreciable wear on your six puck disk already? I was a little surprised to hear that you're replacing it.

Yea, for under $150 and zero extra time input I'm just hoping for another 5k miles on the tail-end of clutch life. The disc I took out looked decent, I'll keep it as a wall momento unless someone wants to give me a few bills for it (seems like people will buy anything!). I'll post some pics when I post a FS ad.

Definitely a solid choice, that's what I would have gone with had MAP not offered me this prototype of theirs. It is larger than most other intercooler cores on the market for the X; right behind the Buschur and my MAP prototype (980 c.i.). My favorite part about the Perrin is it is the only FMIC in the market for the X to fully utilize the entire front bumper opening; all others have end-tanks or at least welds exposed.

Nope, but I will use it for a chilly intake charge during the Texas heat

Like shane said, he's never seen too big of an intercooler
So I heard back from DeatschWerks just now. Man these guys are awesome to work with!

I just wish their 1300's weren't so noisy. I may end up getting them anyways--service like this is really hard to come by. I've had a ton of very positive back/forth with these guys on a set of second-hand injectors. Very impressed.

Re: beaterX project thread
Any close ups of the external fin density/design on that core? While I agree a bigger IC is great, thickness is always a worry of mine on my setups. I won't ever run an extremely thick FMIC if the external fins are so densly packed that it seems that it is going to extremely inhibit flow to the radiator. Hence why I really like ETS cores as they don't focus 100% on intake charge cooling, but focus on street applications where keeping airflow through the core allowing enough air to the radiator is important as well. Garrett cores usually have a pretty dense external fin design from what I've seen.
Although it may not be as much of a concern considering you have an aluminum block now which may dissipate heat a bit better than the iron blocks... I'm just a worry wart when it comes to overheating, I can thank the old 1G for that

Sounds like a great excuse for a radiator upgrade! lol. Mishimoto makes two and CBRD has a baller one for the X. I have the cheaper Mishimoto and my car has never budged at the track for temps.

Bryan@GST rags on DW and in the last day a guy is trying to blame a blown motor on a pre-release set of the 1500s. My personal experience has been good, both with that set you've got and the 1000s. Those IDs didn't tune for shit.
