91 talon problems

My friend owns a 91 tsi and has had his ECU caps replaced and at certain spur of the moment times his car still receives the death click. It generally happens when it is cold out, and at other times it will work just fine. Tomorrow I am going to plug a pocket logger into it to hopefully find something out as to maybe why his check engine light is constantly on. My cousin said it could maybe be the cam angle sensor but that usually happens in rare instances. If anyone has any ideas shout them out whatever they may be. Thanks.

P.S. It still seems like it is a problem with the ECU but I have been assured that it in fact isnt.

When you start the vehicle and it runs for about 2 sec max you hear a click in the bay under the cd deck coming from a little box way down below. It is the same click as the one you hear about 7 sec after turing the vehicle off.

best bet is to get that logger hooked up to see what triggers that CEL. guessing could be something related to inigition coil or electrical related...

good luck.

Re: 91 talon problems

I am such an idiot it wasnt the check engine light. For some stupid reason I thought the coolant light went with the check engine light so in fact it has nothing to do with the engine. Could it be that the fuel pump is bad and that it is telling itself to shut-off? My cousin said that could be an idea but at the same time be a little weird because it wouldn't slowly go out and drag on like it is. He is stumped like I am.

Doesnt the pocketlogger have a thing to test the fuel pump solenoid?

Maybe if the ECU caps were leaking, acid may have eaten up part of the board?

Does this car even run? Not sure if we established that. If it does, how does it run?

Check the alternator fuse. It may have a bad connection (it screws on) or may be blown. That can cause odd problems like this. That click you hear is the main relay down by the ECU.

Re: 91 talon problems

The car has its moment when it does and doesn't want to run. When it starts and stays running it runs like normal it is just getting it to stay running when it gets its click. If the alternator fuse is blown is it repairable or must it be sent in?

If its a normal fuse, it should be replaceable. I think Jet indicated that.
