How to sound like the SRT-4?
Okay I know it's a 2.4L vs. 2.0, and they are mufferless bla bla. They cut spark not fuel to make all those pops and crackles when you let off the gas.
Well winter is here, and money is saving, and going to start working on the car around februaryish. Besides Evo III manifold, my exhaust is stock. First mod I'm doing on the car. When I'm done with tuning/fuel, I'm planning on using a Evo III 16g turbo.
My friend has an SRT-4 and he took the cats out, went with 3inch exhaust, with one resonator. If you stand behind the car when he starts it, you can actually hear like turbo spooling sound. When he just cruises around a parking lot you can hear a faint whistle sound. It just sounds so mean. Not to mention when full boost is reached it sounds like a jet.
Just wondering if I do something similar to that 3" one resonater, mufferless, if it will sound similar and what not.

You corrected yourself before you answered incorrectly. The popping and cracking is from low backpressure, because there's no muffler and it's very free flowing. Any car with an exhaust like that will pop and crack similarly. It has nothing to do with the car cutting spark or fuel. I had a Capri with a 5.0 V8 with dual exhaust and cats, no mufflers, and it sounded like an SRT4.

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
get JET to fab you up a full 3" setup & you'll not only sound better than that srt4 but probably beat it off the line. The turbo spooling sound will come with a bigger turbo.

Smaller. Smaller turbo.
Take a stock Stealth and give it a DP and you will hear the turbos. You can make 5psi just revving it. Small turbos rock.

Get a bigger exhaust and get a metal intake pipe and you will hear the turbo all the time. The metal intake pipe resonates the spool alot, or it did on my old car (CAI).

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
Hard intake pipe, hard IC piping, and a catless turboback exhaust with a flow-through muffler...that'll be all the awsome noises you want

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
If you run a straight pipe you WILL hear the turbo spinning all the time, trust me I used to run open downpipe, and a straight pipe, and u could definatly hear the turbo whistlin when you let off and stuff

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
So with a straight piping exhaust it wont be loud? Because just running open downpipe is loud and im guessing running a straight 3" exhaust will just sound like running open downpipe, right? Correct me if im wrong, but just having a 3" exhaust no cat not muffler will be very loud.

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
Why are you people even talking about this? Who gives a fuck what a SRT-4 sounds like. If you want to know go ask them on the SRT4 forums.
Question:
Hey SRT-4 world, I am a newbie and I want my DSM to sound like yours does. My buddy has a SRT-4 and I drool at the thought of being able to chirp my BOV in grocery store parking lots going 10mph. And when he does it I can hear the turbo spinning like DJ Clue spinning a record. Please tell me how........Please.
Come on fellas this is a joke right?

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
Funny. Well to be specific I dont care about the BOV. I've been to the track many times, heard many exhaust. I just have not done anything to mine. I heard exhaust that just sounds like crap, to exhaust that just sounds outright mean, and catches someones attention. IMO I just think that dodges setup just sounds awesome for a four banger. However wanted to get the right idea on how to setup mine, so it sounds mean, but isn't raunchy like most the four bangers out there.
That is all.

Re: How to sound like the SRT-4?
Put the world's smallest exhaust side on a 16G to choke it down in the upper RPMs, since you can't rev much past 6000RPMs anyways, and use it to muffle the hell out of the motor, then run 3" straight through exhaust from there with no resonators or mufflers and you might be able to emulate the SRT-4 sound.

-Its pretty loud, but it doesn't sound anything like a open downpipe, because the sound don't bounce off the ground, and the piping is longer, however on boost, it's still the coolest thing I've ever herd, and I could easily hear it from over 4 blocks away when I let my friend drive it...
