crank pulley?? please help
allright, wife said her galant was making a rattling noise, i went out and looked, crank-ps-a/c belt was off, so i took it out, started it up real quick and the crank pulley that this belt attaches to was shaking more than beyonce's ass....is there any chance that its just the crank pulley????? this is a 99 galant with the 4g64 motor. i'm really hoping it didn't screw up the crank or anything since this is a weak 7 bolt....and this is her daily driver, she has to have this car to go to work, i'm having it towed to mitsu now, but they can't look at it for about a week. any ideas??? thanks.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
That is the harmonic balancer. They are known to seperate, but that is really early for a 99. Get a new one and you should be in good shape! I am guessing around $80 from Mitsu.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
well, wife told me it had been ticking for a few days, but i think shes just hearing the lifter tick hopefully.....so you don't think the crank is screwed at all, just the balancer that the ps-a/c belt goes onto? if so, thats awesome, we are buying a new house in three days, and i wasn't planning on taking the downpayment money for a new engine. thanks.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
oh yea, one more thing, i looked at it from the bottom, and it looks like it was eating up part of the timing cover?? down by the oil pan, there is two pulleys, one closest with crank-alternator belt (that was coming in contact to what looked like the timing belt cover) and then the outside one that was shaking with the ps-a/c belt....does this still sound like the dampener?

Re: crank pulley?? please help
Yeah, it should actually be one pulley, it just looks like 2.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
If the car still runs, your crank sensor is fine. Make sure when you get a new pulley, to remove any loose plastic pieces so that don't end up in the timing belt.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
well, mitsu called today, crank pulley took out a little bit of the timing belt, and then the timing cover.....so this is getting expensive, and they say the hole pulley is screwed....so, oh well i guess, it was due for a timing belt anyways, just hoped we could of waited....oh well.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
Lucky she told you about it. If it would of cut into the timing belt and caused the timing belt to jump while she was highway driving. It could of been a lot more money.

Re: crank pulley?? please help
oh yea, i'm greatful for that, and i explained it to her, so now she knows to definatly to tell me about wierd things like that now....700 is alot better than 1500 or so.....for a valve job, assuming the valves wouldn't of screwed up the pistons....but anyways, thanks for the help guys, i really appreciate it.
