Cleaning talon rim lip. (pic enclosed)

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...9_207_full.jpg

On the rims in the above pic, there is a silver lip that is around the edge. on mine, Its looking really grimy nad has buildup on it that looks like dirt and soap or almost like mold. i was wondering how to get it off there. Its not a part of the rim, its sometihing on it. does anyone have an idea on how to clean it?

Its called corroded aluminum. You have to sand or grind it smooth and then polish it and put a clear coat on it. Or just paint the lip.

Use a dremel (sp?) tool. I am sure that would take it right off.

I would scotchbrite it, then polish it with polishing compound.

Re: Cleaning talon rim lip. (pic enclosed)

We used a rag dipped in brake fluid to get the big stuff off and then used a scotch-brite pad to get the smaller stuff smoothed out. Then polished it. Then clearcoated the lip. Takes some time but is well worth it in the end. We did this on a buddy of mines rims on his Fiero the night before a car show.

Just make sure you wear gloves when working with the brake fluid and don't get any on any other painted part that you don't want to have to repaint.

Re: Cleaning talon rim lip. (pic enclosed)

It cuts thru the clearcoat that is on the lip so you don't have to sand thru it so much. That way you only have to sand the corrosion.

Like I said, you don't want to get the fluid on anything else that you don't want to strip the paint off of.

Aircraft stripper would work well in taking the clearcoat off also, but that stuff is REALLY nasty if ya get it on something you didn't plan on.
