Unhappy upper RPM studder and backfire

Hey I'm having a problem with my Gaylant and I'm not sure if it is fuel or ignition to blame for it.

My car runs fine in the lower RPMs and also it will at random just start running perfect with no trouble at any RPM. At first I thought it was a fuel problem (pump going out and not supplying enough fuel) or maybe a problem with my regulator going out. But it also will backfire when it does this, doesn't that only occur when the car is running rich? So I think it is might be my ignition now, unless the regulator is going out but for some reason is sticking closed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What year galant? Turbo or Non-Turbo?

Start with the basics. Check your plugs/wires/boostleaks/vaccum lines/etc.
