1Gb rear conversion
Well since the talon is officially parked for the season now, I started removing the rear off of it to convert it over to the 92 style rear end. I had to do a tiny bit of cuttin so far, but now I have it all figured out except one part. The electrical plug on the 92 tails is different then the 91, because there is an additional blinker bulb in the top orange part of the 92 tails that is not in the 91 tails. Has anyone else done this conversion? What did you do to make it work? Here's some pics to help explain my problem.
In the picture, the 92 tail is on the top, and my 91 tail is on the bottom. You can see how the top one has one extra bulb, and that it has a white square plug with four conductor pins, while the 91 tail is rectangle with only 3 pins.

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
Just wire in another bulb socket to whichever of the two existing ones blink from the 91 harness. Should be too hard, just play with adding on wires.

*sniff*
Man, at first I thought you took a pic of my car before you took the bumper off. Makes me get all misty-eyed for the good old days.

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
Well so far what i did is just remove the litte bulb wiring harnesses off the both sets of tails, and attached the 91 bulbs and plugs onto the 92 tails. Looks like it will work fine. All I'll have to do is take off that extra bulb socket off the 92 harness, and run some wires over to the other blinker bulb wiring. But now I ran into another problem. The little socket dealy for the blinker on the far corner of the tails, well apparently they were a different design, becuase it will not plug in. CVD, can I gank these 2 sockets off your car? It's just that one socket the bulb plug into, the ones that go into the very ends/corners of the rear tail lights.
Edit -Here is a pic that shows the piece I need. I need the grey/black plug connector dealy that the bulb plugs into and goes into that hole. Anyone have them? CVD are they still on your car?

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
And to answer your question Hughes, yes I'm getting the car painted. Same color, just going to lose the silver bottom. So I suppose the paint will look similar to Shep's car. But I'm leaving the 91 spoiler on there, and am debating whether to get that and the roof done in black, or do it all the Black Cherry color. Here's a pic of another person who did the conversion and left the 91 spoiler on. I think it looks sick!!

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
I am more of a fan of the 1GA body style, but the eclipse has the better body then the talon for the 1GA and the talon is nicer for the 1GB.
Doesnt look to bad though, especially if you get it painted

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
I had a 1gb talon & prefer it's ass end to the rest of'em. Sits a little lower, and wraps around the muffler...a more finished look, in my opinion. The rest are like, ah, yes, and we'll just hang the muffler out below the bumper like so...

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
I personally feel the 92-94 Talon is the best looking of any 1G. Front, sides, rear, spoiler, everything.

Re: 1Gb rear conversion
I really liked the 90-91 Talon rear, but the 92-94 also looks great. I did the Talon rear on my GSX and left the rear spoiler. It was unique til Gates copied my idea.
With the harnesses being that different, I'd swap in the 92+ taillight relay, then mark down which bulb lights and mark the corresponding wiring harness accordingly. That way you'll know what bulb you have to add and how to wire that. Hopefully you don't have to run wires all the way up to the front harness.
Good luck.
Steve
