Not something I'm proud of, but I'm now "uninsurable".

Don't flame me, I don't really care to hear it. I need honest help and suggestions.

My dad's insurance company [State Farm] won't unsure me unless I'm in the "high risk" program which will end up making my dad's insurance double. So now I'm on my own.

Thankfully, I've slowed down a lot, and I watch my speed more, so hopefully I won't be getting any more tickets for awhile, but I still have some time before this shit dies off my record.

Does anyone know of a good insurance company that is good for this kind of thing? I already know I'm going to get anal raped with insurance but I need to start some place.

Progressive is a good place to start. After that, talk to Reid, he knew of a place in Crystal (I think) that dealt soley with "high-risk" individuals.

Yeah Progressive is usually the best with "high risk". Either way its not going to be cheap by any means. Your location might not be helping either.

Yah, my dad had mentioned Progressive, so I'll check them out tomorrow, along with E-surance. Has anyone ever dealt with them?

That gives me SOME hope. I have 4 speeding and one red light ticket. And I will be insuring a 1990 Galant. Non-turbo, just a regular, auto.

Your under your dad's insurance?

hmm.....Are you currently in school as well?
If you are, even if your a "high risk", wouldn't good grades get you like 20% discount.
Just a thought.

Hes ALOT older than you though, which lowers insurance costs dramatically. Being young with a record makes it very hard to get a decent rate. Call the major companies and see what they can do as far as rates. American family, progressive, state farm, etc. There are some special high risk insurance companies but I forget their names.

Just liability on that old of a car shouldnt be insanely high, just call around to start.

Progressive is a horrible company, and so are most of the other places that insure high-risk drivers for cheap. They work when you need cheap insurance, but dont go into it expecting a whole lot more than a little blue card with your name and policy # on it. They arent the best when it comes to filing claims.

And for some reason, they charge males more than females. I don't get it.

Good luck with the dealings. Why are you back in MN?

No, I'm no longer with my dad's insurance. I was up until now. I'm going back to school. At least now I have TWO goals of why I should get good grades. I think a lot of companies have something like that.

HOPEFULLY, I won't have to file any claims. Since my last ticket, I've REALLY been watching my speeds. I have a GREAT cop eye, but it only takes you so far. And I've been in one accident. So hopefully I won't have to deal with it. I'm a pretty causious driver, I just have a hard time watching my speeds.

Re: Not something I'm proud of, but I'm now "uninsurable".

My coworker just had to file a claim with Progressive and it couldn't have been easier for him. He dropped the car off, got a free rental, and will have his car back in 1-2 weeks.

Esurance is cheap, but their customer service is horendous. There is another cheap online company too, but I can't remember their name.

Re: Not something I'm proud of, but I'm now "uninsurable".

I have Progressive, and have for the last two years. I've had absolutely no problems, but haven't had any claims. They were about half the cost of Allstate for the exact same coverage. My parents also have them, and had a windshield that needed to be replaced. They called, and they people were out within just hours of them calling.

I would start with them Tauni, you can do online quotes as well.

Being "high-risk", I'd actually call and talk to them on the phone about it. Unlike you were instructed above, don't lie to them and be perfectly honest; you're already in a bad situation, no use in making it any worse than it already is.

Food for thought....
If you are living under your parents roof and can possibly drive their cars...they will be on risk also.
Even if you have your own policy through what ever insurance company you choose.
This comes from a parent who's kids have been on risk insurance and had their own policy but had the same address as their parents. It was hard to belive that the insurance companies will do this but they did, and we had to suffer right along with the kids.

Re: Not something I'm proud of, but I'm now "uninsurable".

Ok well I attempted to call Prgressive using the 800 number I found on their website. It ended up being a sex line? So I said fuck it and just did it online. It let me compare rates with other insurance companies, and suprisingly, American Family came out as being cheapest. Well Progressive's qupte was $4 cheaper, but it said in the "fine print" that it included a "pay-in-full" discount. Whatever that is, since it didn't say, which frustrated me. Anyways, by the looks of it, either one I chose I'm going to be seriously raped by my insurance company.

Yep, thats why my dad won't let me be on his insurance anymore. I don't live with him, but I've still been insured with him. His insurance company told him if I was on his policy, HIS insurance would double, along with my price.
