I posted a pic of my exhaust on DSM Tuners cause someone was wondering how a dual tip would look. Got a reply back about how it looks like i run rich. Now that i think about it, I do. There is a nice little black spot on the floor in my garage right behind my muffler. Is this normal with running no cat? If not some possible causes? I have always known it burned oil if i let it idle for 5 mins or more...and since its winter i have been doing that so it can warm up. Think that would be the cause?

You may be running rich, but all DSMs tend to blacken the exhaust tips when run with no cat.
I would tune the car how you like it and leave it. Tuning by the color of your tip is generally a bad idea. My car actually spits little bits of carbon/unburnt fuel out on startup (made a black streak in the snow one day). And thats how I like it

Haha, you should follow me or Andy sometime when we floor it! Turbo cars do run rich just to be safe. I wouldn't worry about it.

My Laser did the same thing--I made some moron at McDonald's watch my exhaust while I floored it. He ended up getting black gunk everywhere... it was fairly amusing.

Ah, you'll be fine with it running black, where'd you get that Dual Tip Muffler? It'd be a nice sleeper muffler if the tips were a little smaller. Is it 3"? PM me.

I dont look at the exhast smoke at all. It could be black because you are running rich or lean.

rich = too much fuel
lean = burning the carbon off the tops of your pistons

I've got no cat and it blackens the tip a little if you don't clean it a lot. Nothing to worry about though.

When I was having all the fuel problems with my car it would spit black adn shoot flames, once it was tuned properly, it still spit black and shot fireballs (although no longer big 3 foot sized yellow flames)

As JET and CVD said all turbo cars run rich, drive behind a supra for a while sometime.
