1g FWD Exhausts?

First of all, how many people here drive a modified turbo 1g fwd? I would like to see pics of the exhaust systems people use because I need to start planning how I'm going to make my on dp-back exhaust.

I've seen some go through the stock way over the rear axle but then I've seen name brand ones that go right under the axle, so I'd like to hear if people have problems with it under the axle. If I can do that, then I don't have to buy a 90 and two 45's.

Re: 1g FWD Exhausts?

My exhaust goes under the rear axle on my FWD. The problem with going over the axle is the limited amount of space. Most people say you can't even fit a 3" pipe over the top. As far as I know there isn't any exhaust made by any manufacturer that goes under the axle. I custom made my exhaust using autozone piping. Yeah it's not mandral bent but it only cost me $90 to make and I'm still making the same power as other's with the same setup. (375whp-365wtq with s16g)

Basically my exhaust has only two 90 degree bends and one 45 degree to go under the axle. I have about 2-3 inches clearance under the axle and not once has it ever given me any clearance issues. The only problem with it is when you lift the car on a lift and the rear axle tries to come down but the one side hits the exhaust and doesnt allow full suspension travel on that side. Basically you can make a flange so you can drop the axle-back portion anytime..

Here is a pic of when I was putting it all together:

3 inch til it goes under the axle and then reduces down to 2.5 to mate with my 2.5 magnaflow muffler. Eventually I'll be drilling it out to 3 but I'm not too worried about it right now.

Also I'm pretty sure there are only 3 guys with FWD 1g's on this site. Me, you and carlton I believe his name is.

Here's a pic somewhat showing it going under the axle.

My exhaust is pretty simple. I have two 3" 45* bends one thats pretty mutch right under the axil to go up and over and one to bend it straight back to the stock exit area. I just have a cheap Ebay straight through muffler. If I did it again I'd add a resonator inline somewere.

I had the Thermal Research on my 90 Laser. It was 3" and went over the rear.

Was the best sounding exhaust out of all my DSMs

The only thing I don't like about your's is that it goes right under the gas tank. I would at least put some sort of heat sheild there.

Mine use to be under the gas tank thats why I cut it off and stuck the muffler on. It scraped on everything.

What I want to do is put maybe 2 3 inch cherry bomb glass packs in the center hump and then just run stock 3 inch mandrel bent tubing out the stock location and routing. It can't be that hard to make it go over the rear axle, can it?

My car is lowered at least 2 inches so I dont think theres mutch room above the axil. I mostly wanted to make it with the least amount of bends possible. less restriction less cost and less work fabing it.

Re: 1g FWD Exhausts?

If you're fabing it up yourself just go under the axle. It's much easier and less restrictive. Too bad you live far otherwise I'd gladly help you.
