bad turbo? need help a.s.a.p

I have a 1ga eclipse gsx.
it smokes at idle, and when i rev it up a little. but for the very short period of time i drove it, it didnt seem to smoke when it was going into boost.

I took the air filter off that conects to the intake of the turbo and there was oil in there. i also took the j pipe off and there was some oil in it.

i think the turbo needs a rebuild but i just want to be sure.
also, the previous owner had a ss feed line going from the oil filter housing. not sure if that matters, but i read when you get a bigger turbo/ relocate the feed line you need to get restrictors, is it possible there could be to much oil going into the turbo because there might not be a restrictor, hence causing the smoke problem? it is a stock td05 turbo.

hopefully i described it well enough so i can get some opinion's from some of you guys who have expirience with dsm's.

There is 175k on the car, i'm not sure about the turbo though.
previous owner claims he had the bottom end rebuilt.
I havent had it on a dyno yet, i just got it yesterday lol.
I havent gone into boost that much because i dont want to hurt anything else driving like it is, there is no boost controller, so i would imagine 7-8 psi.

for the little time i drove it i did a decent pull but didnt catch the boost gauge. but i noticed it didnt smoke when i was in boost.

do you think its safe to drive it for a little bit just to see how much its boosting? and check to see if it smokes when i hit boost?

there is minimal shaft play, no in and out.

im going to check the pcv valve tomorow, take the dp off to look for oil, overall just go through it a little so i can give more details. i'll keep you posted.

thanks for the reply!

If the valve cover vent is still hooked to the intake like stock a little oil in the intake is normal. The feed line shouldn't be an issue, and it's mostly ball bearing turbos that need restrictors. The oil in the j-pipe could just be from the compressor shooting it through the housing from the intake, coating the j-pipe.

I would clean everything up and hook up a catch can, then check on it in a few days.
