Got that SECOND Alt from checkers installed, and of coarse this one is good, cause I had it tested BEFORE I put it in this time.

Anyway now I keep getting Alt belt squeaks coming back after about a day after retightening it? I retighten it, the squeak stops, then the next day it starts back up, and I retighten again, again the squeak stops, and again it comes back the next day.

Over and over for 3 days now?

It can't be over tight yet, cause when I tried to loosen it, it squealed bad and got really hot, slipped I guess?

It also looks like atleast some of the belt is-was wearing off, because there was a bunch of black rubber belt dust all over the Alt this morning which I blew out with Air.

Looks aligned, feels tight? I'm out of ideas? Anybody else have this problem before?

TIA.......

Howie

Check to make sure it's 100% on the Pulley's. The Middle Pulley sometimes looks like it's right on but will be slightly off (usually towards the Timing belt coverside)

Anycase that's would explain the black dust due to the belt rubbing on the timing belt cover, etc.

IF nothings out of place. Then Just do what steve hill told me. Take I think it was baking powder tooth paste and rub it on the side of the belt that contacts the pulley. That'll make the squeeking go away.

Get a new belt. Or spray it with WD-40

Are you sure that its the belt and not the bearings? Could be a bad set of bearings this time from Checker

Hope not! I'll just shit if this 2nd one going out too? Wouldn't surprise me I guess. Last time I'm going to Checkers, EVER! Cranked it down, and it got quite, again, we'll see.

I know the car is newer, but check the crankshaft pulley. Mine was doing that before and the crank pulley was actually separating.

Otherwise, mine was doing that one other time when the alternator was overcharging. I know you said it's new and they tested it for you. I noticed it when the headlights would suddenly get real bright and then dim down again. I checked the voltage display on my turbo timer when it would happen and I spiked as high as 18volts.

I bought a brand new alternator from Mitsu (came in a Checker box) lasted all of 1000 miles before it finally quit on me.

When did this start hapening to you? what did you do?

for me it was after i did my timing belt and water pump...
Its not because the belt is new, and its not because its loose... the belts are made for that purpose, no need to over tighten them, you are just looking for worn out seals, bearings and leaking water pump. i made that mistake before.

Take a look at your water pump pulleys, there should be two of them, the outside one can be put on two different ways, and one way just puts it off by 2mm or so off to the side, which gives it just enough to start squaling like a $2 hooker...

Try that and let me know if it works since your car is already running.

Yeah I had the same problem, then I removed power steering pump, and grounded alternator to shock tower, and now my alternator doesnt charge whatsoever. Who knows, My alternator was almost to the end of the sliding room before it stopped squeking, then it stopped working, who knows. :headache:
