Spool vs Welded diff.

early 92 awd 5 spd
I really don't want my diff to blow up from hard launches and stupid abuse. Whats the best way to strengthen the center differential? 4 spider, spool, welded diff?

The spool looks good to me, its cheaper than a 4 spider and it apparently will virtually eliminate front pinion shaft or side gear failure.

How would that affect driveability and wear on other components?

4 spider, if you want to be able to turn and road race/autox it at all. I would do spool over welded diff, but if you want to save money, a welded diff is the cheapest route. You will damage your CV joints with a welded center diff or spool, if you street drive it much.

Re: Spool vs Welded diff.

If there's still any doubt at all about how harse a welded center diff (also spool) is, I shattered a cup in my CV while backing out of my driveway. If you have a manual rack, forget about turning. It's great for WOT launches, just forget about street manners.
