I've never used the clay bar in straight lines, I've gone in a circular motion just like I was applying wax. It's pretty cool if the paint is bad as you'll feel the clay kind of "dragging" at first then after a couple passes it should be smooth.

Don't forget to apply some wax after you clay

I was planning on doing claybay and wax all in one day. Get it ready for the season.

Circular is fine too, different methods for different theories. Wax is a definite must after claybar.

When I go all out on a car here is my process:
-wash w/ car wash soap
-wash w/ Dawn dishsoap
-clay bar w/spray detailer as lubricant
-wash w/ car wash soap
-polish
-wax
-spray detail

polish with what? Do you have a buffer or something?

Hand-applied, I'll save the power machines for professionals with insurance...just in case.

They make two versions, one for dark colors, one for light colors.

I guess I shall get the dark colored one. Red seems in between almost, but I'd guess dark.

Yes, you should get the dark version. It generally took me 8 hours to completely detail the S2k.

My Evo takes 10-12 for a full regimen, depending on if I have to compound out scratches or not.

Get a orbital buffer to remove the wax, polish, ect, its not hard and saves a heck of a lot of time and does a better job than hand. Just use light pressure, the weight of the machine basically.. I always did the 3 step meguires and it has never failed me. A good half day with clay bar, 10-12 hours is nutty.

Finished rolling fenders last saturday, took a good six hours or so with lunch (chipotle mmmm). We did the 2nd rear fender and actually did both front ones as well. The front ones are interesting, I had to heat the area then push on the fender for it to work.

The three we did saturday look good, the one we did 2 years ago, not terrible, but a little wavy. Tonight I am off to Shawns to do the springs and new RSB. Hopefully nothing rubs too terrible, I don't think it will though. If anything maybe a little clean up rolling.

On an unrelated note...I reset all my fuel trims (playing with the new evoscan 2.9 actuator which lets you do it from evoscan) and then the car wouldn't idle. Hmmm.

It was already up to operating temp but not sure why it wouldn't idle at all. It was working great before I reset the trims. I thought my idle trim was negative in fall so it was trying to pull fuel but it looks like its starving now. Lame.

The idle is controlled by the throttle body opening and closing, not a seperate idle motor like a cable throttle car, so often it has to relearn how to idle after resetting the ECU.

Gotcha. So do I rev it do keep it idling to help it learn? It seems to fall on its face if I let it go by itself. It will go down all the way to 400-500rpms and just die.

I could drive it, but I had to rev it lots to keep going.

Let it learn, if it idles low, but doesn't stall, let it. Extra learning is always needed, especially with cams, a large MAF pipe, and a ported throttle body.

K...no ported TB here, just big cams and MAF pipe.

Rev3 mani and ported TB are all I have left on my plate for upgrades which won't happen anytime soon.

idle recovered today just fine after a good while of learning. I think the problem was starting out hot when the idle was lower. When i started it cold the idle is higher anyway so it kept it running long enough to learn.

In other news...

YAY!

Got my eibach springs and whiteline RSB installed tonight. Took a while but nothing too terrible. Thanks again Chet for the "new" endlinks, most appreciated.

BIG THANKS to shawn (simulatedwood) for the help, he is the man. I am going to attempt to repay his kindness by helping him with his exedy twin install...and bringing beer for that one

No more Murlo lift kit crap now, I am pleased. The car feels pretty damn good now and sits just where I want it. The fender rolling worked perfect it seems as no rubbing yet. The eibachs are pretty stock feeling until you hit a good bump then they are stiff but not too terrible.

Overall very happy.

Sad note, my alignment is so far off it seems that you can tell the wear on the inside is already returning. My alignment is this friday to take care of that and I will swap tires in the front to the back. Nothing bad at all, but sucks that in only like 500 miles you can even tell. My guess is the multiple motor swaps screwing alignment up not the alignment itself.

Oh, also the spacer Shawn helped me put in for the new belt seems to have done the trick. After 500ish miles the belt looks perfect. So a plus there.
