Where To Save Weight On A 1g Awd?

I was just wondering where people like to save weight on the 1G AWDs. I know that ripping out the interior saves weight, but aporx. how much? Thanks guys.

AC, interior, PS, bolts that are too considered too long Lightweight wheels, ground effects... (take them off find laser bumpers) Anything that you can think of.

eat less, remove sound deadening material, scrape it off the floor, remove un necessary brakets...every little helps.. and it might not seam like much but at the end it all adds up. Especially if you end up cleaning the dirt as well out of the car.

Remove the steel from the bumpers, front and back and support the skin with somthing else.

Ditching those automatic seatbelts will save about another 25-30lbs

Interior panels and rear seats hardly weigh anything. Front seats are heavy though. Replace seatbelts with harnesses. Ditch the ABS, heater, AC, spare tire, sunroof, insulation pad under dash, metal bumpers, sound system. Replacing the hood with a carbon fiber or light fiberglass one makes a difference, as well as replacing all glass with lexan or speedglass. Although a lexan windshield is not street legal. Lighter wheels and lighter brake components reduce unsprung weight, as well as overall weight, a double bonus. If you really wanted to get crazy, you could start cutting out inner structure panels and acid-dip fenders and such. :bounce:

He is not kidding, this year he is goal is massive traction. The easiest way for it is more wieght. He now has weights in the trunk to keep the tires from breaking loose in sand and water.

As far as weight loss, AC, ABS, PS, spare tire and jack, metal brackets in trunk, rear seat, front and rear bumper supports, sound deadining material, cut down each bolt that has more than 3 threads sticking out the back (someone on here is famous for this), drill hole through spot welds and remove pannel supports (the cage will hold it together anyhow), glove box, trim panels, shift knob, center counsel, misc screws that are not needed (things that have 12 screws holding it while it could be done efficiently with 2), rear wiper motor and arm assembly, spoiler, emblems, hubcaps, visors, carpeting, passengers seat, undercoating material, rear drive assembly and convert to FWD (saves alot of weight ), vents, heater box, power windows, power mirrors, power locks, pass headlight, foglights, cf hood and fenders, and lexan windows.

There is a site on the internet somewhere that says the wieght of parts. I cannot find it now but will look again later.

I have even gone so far as to start filling in the holes I cut last summer and extending the bolts I shortened I am thinking some big Chrome Blingers are my next big mod as well as possibly some thumping base through like 18" speakers and some killer huge amps!

I am also looking into the 1/4" wall MS 48 point roll cage for additional chassis strength, JET got me thinking about that.

Okay fine, I have lightened up a few things on the blue cheese I call my car. Looks like everyone has covered the majority of it anyway. I will say this to actually doing any effective weight reduction involves obvious compromises, if you can handle it, it is well worthwhile. I might take things a bit extreme sometimes, but that is how I am. It's all about overkill. Now with said, I am going back to welding up all those holes. :bounce:

Thanks guys. My laser has PS, that's it. No AC, no anti-lock, no power belts, no ground effects/spoiler. Cher said the big thing was the bumper supports.

Also Rust is your friend. Just scrape the paint down to the bare metal and add waterandsalt. you should be good to go! :goodluck:

You guys forgot to remove the dash. All you need is a plumbers strap bracket to hold the shift light. IIRC MTV told me that real street racers don't need a speedometer, if they knew how fast they where going they'd slow down. That was a quote from a honda driver, you damned sure better get rid of it in a lightened DSM.

The engine that you rebuilt had a spun bearing on #2 cyl.
