I was just about to post this up. I swear you beat me to posting these threads up by just minutes. Anyway, it seems pretty cool

Shane, I think you need to do this on mara's car

Time will tell if it really works well. They don't work worth a shit in the early evos but they make the car run

Naw, I have 1G software that does more than the Evo stuff can do so far.

WTF are you talking about? Evo8 ecu's are like $100, make an adapter or maybe someone will for another $100, $50 for a cable and you have a fully tunable ECU! You can't touch that...how much is dsmlink, $500? Reflash tuning is doable but hardly readily available (no offense shane), and if you wanna tweak your tune at all you have to yank the stupid ecu out and rip it apart each time you wanna make a change.
**edit** the above post is meant to be enthusiastic about new technology, not come across as harsh/crazy/etc.

Re: Evo8 ECU in a 1G DSM
Do you have to switch over to all the evo MAS, CAS, sensors, etc? I should grab one and sell my AEM, lol.

Just the knock sensor. Technically you could get it running in speed density too, but that's still a little young imho. Evo MAS would be easiest, but you can scale the maf to whatever you got (just gotta figure out what settings are needed).

I'm talking about fixing what aint broke. Plenty of people making power on E-Proms.
Kinda like running a GMBS instead of a $30 MBC. It may work but it's not as easy to set up and a good ol' MBC has been proven for years
Where are Evo ECU's going for $100? If that's true it seems pretty cheap

I attached a pic of some table lists and such. Studderbox, NLTS, speed density, boost control vs mph, phantom knock, nitrous control, etc. Most of the same stuff that Evos have now plus some generic outputs for whatever you want. No alt map, but you can put 2 tunes on 1 chip and have them switch via a wire like how you activate alt map.
The main problems with the Evo ECU are it's over zealous/flaky knock control, flaky idle control compared to DSMs, and all kinds of new CELs that 1Gs don't normally ever have to deal with. The EcuFlash software is quick and easy to use though and EvoScan is pretty good.
Can you still even buy the $100 reflash cables new anymore? If you don't want to have to pull the 1G ECU out every time to make changes, $175 for a new Ostrich is still cheaper than $100 for an Evo ECU and $100-$190 for a reflash cable though. And the Ostrich can also make changes in REALTIME, no turning the car off to reflash and cycling the key.

Re: Evo8 ECU in a 1G DSM
I've never even heard of this amazing tool! Do you need a chip burner to burn the chip once you have the tune done? I'm asssuming this is one of those tools that emulates the rom via a usb adapter, then you make changes as needed until you're done tuning, then burn a chip.

Re: Evo8 ECU in a 1G DSM
You can burn a chip or keep the emulator/Ostrich plugged in all the time. If you keep the emulator plugged in, then you can just put the ECU away and just keep your USB cable hanging out somewhere.

Re: Evo8 ECU in a 1G DSM
I find it impressive that someone was able to do all that. I personally will stick with Link as it's what I know, and is everything I feel I will ever need, and their support is remarkable. But still I think it's cool that someone took the time and effort into doing that, and that there are other tuning options being brought to the table. Having more options isn't a bad thing in my book.
