I wouldn't have noticed since I'm not sure what 'normal' is for your car since it was my first time in it. Back when I had that UR fuel filter on my firewall it would make bizarre sounds...the 3port, a different set of injectors, motor mounts..they all make different sounds.

I remember when I first picked up my own car after the initial build and my only thought was 'damn that test pipe is loud'. Now I'm totally use to it.

Alex handed me your piston when I was helping with some other car, and I was like.."is that Dave's?!" wooaa dude. going over your motor today, in a SMALL way, made me feel SORT OF better about mine..it was well enough to race over to BK for lunch..lol.

I know the new build will be better then before.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Small update:

The Buschur diff pins should arrive to my house today and I am going to bring them up to DB so they can get my tranny over to their guy and get those put in.

All of the components for my head have been ordered and will probably show up late this week, early next week I am guessing. The Manley springs/retainers are going to Supertech ones, because the GSC S2 cams that I got have too much lift for the Manley ones, the supertechs are only like 100 more or something.

wtf, the specs on the S2's aren't insane, how can the manley springs not work? on the 8/9 they're only slightly more aggressive than k272's, which work fine with stock springs. Maybe the dual mivec X cams have some crazy ramp rates or something?

*edit* ya, I see in their catalog it says max lift of .430" = 10.9mm....kinda silly imho. The evo8/9 springs are good for .580" = 14.7mm! How can they make such MANLY springs for the 4G63 and such PUSSY springs for the X?

Yea not sure, the GSC S2's are like .433 or something, so just a bit over the Manley max lift, Danny said we could probably still use them, but since I plan to rev it out he thought it was better to go with the Supertech's which can handle like .49 or something.

But I looked at the 8/9/X S2's and they are all about the same lift and designed for roughly the same rev range and power levels...400-700whp.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I will dish out rides when it is all said and done...however, I am graduating my car to only myself driving it simply because I can't afford to fix another motor right now and a misshift at 9k would be deadly. too much to lose.

500whp would be sweet, but i might get stuck in the upper 4's until i finish some other things off that might be restrictions, intake mani, throttle body and I will go to a tubular mani eventually too. Probably winter project...then shoot for 500's next spring. I honestly just want the damn thing to work, lol.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

My new "1400cc" DW injectors will be here tomorrow, my head is off to DB's machinist for his raceport job and +1mm valve installation with my new GSC s2 cams and supertech springs/retainers. The buschur diff pins and my tranny went to DB's tranny guy for installation and while he has it all apart if anything looks worn he is going to replace.

My stock turbo will be at FP Wednesday, so hopefully 2 weeks or so and he will ship it back. The Shortblock is due in port the end of this week or early next week, so hopefully end of next week or early the following week that will be at DB. Hopefully everything falls into place and the head/tranny are done before the shortblock gets there and then the FPblack arrives when the motor is going back in.

It seems to be going smoothly...almost too smoothly.

Edit: Also ordered a Thermal intake spacer, was going to do Boomba, but MAP had the same thing for like half the price from them so I just got that one. Also ordered my second piece of bling, aside from my Perrin shorty antenna that was my first mod, a boomba oil cap!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Valve cover off to Primo for a bit of bling, well kinda, wrinkle black, lol

And dropped these off at DB:

They are technically 1300's, but DW found me a set that flows 1400cc at base pressure So I call them DW1400's!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I thought about asking in Scheides thread, but I didn't want to cloud up his when I have my own.

Motor mount, so you guys think just the front should be enough? Is it a power level thing at all? I plan to hit 500 on DB's dyno at one point or another.

Any durometer recommendations? Or can I do like what Scheides did and drill some of it out if needed.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I think you'll be fine with just the front. If you do want to do the rear mount then now is the time while the motor is out.

Stiffness is something you'll have to ask yourself, how much engine vibration do you want transmitted to the rest of the car?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I would get just the front and go with AMS' 70A durometer to start with and drill holes in it if you find it too stiff. With how stiff the X chassis is a 90A would transmit a lot of vibrations to the cabin and become very irritating on a street car. Now on the VIII/IX's a 90A front mount is about right for a street car.
