6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Just picked up this 97 tsi shell from South Dakota last night. The car is awd 5speed and has 101k miles. This car is pretty clean with almost no rust. It came without a motor, tranny, intercooler and exhaust. It only came with dsmlink v3, eprom ecu and a walboro 255.

The plan is to swap the 6 bolt from my 92 laser and run it stock until I gather all of the equipment to build it next spring. The plan is an oem build with 2g pistons and an evo3 turbo. This car will be my daily up at UMD until I figure out what I want to do.

I will keep you guys updated on the 6 bolt swap in the mean time. So far I still need to find an exhaust, tranny and xfercase, TPS, ps pump and bracket, a/c bracket and a front passenger axle. I will start tearing apart the laser tomorrow morning and post pics as I go. Enjoy!

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Update on the car. Goodbye laser, 6 bolt went in a few weeks ago. Just got her started Monday. Hopefully get the exhaust done and reset the link settings for stock injectors.

Only problem right now is that I can't connect to my ecu. A window always pops up and says that it can't find the port. Any advice?

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Another thing. I went to hook up the vacuum lines for the fpr and the intake manifold and cant seem to find the fpr solenoid. Do I need one in order for the car to run good? Or will it cause bad idling/airfuel ratios?

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Try wiggling/ pushing all the connectors (especially the obdII) together. Sometimes they come apart, and I don't believe you need the fps. *but don't take my word on that*

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

I already did, I get a quick flash from the link cable right when I plug it in but then I'll try to connect to the ECU and it says that it can't find COM1 or something.

Yeah I did a little research and talked to a few guys. They said I can just run a vacuum line from the intake manifold to the FPR.

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Do you have more than one usb port on your computer?

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Yup it's a mac with 2 3.0 usb ports. I have windows 7 partitioned to another part of my hard drive which is what I run link with. I've been able to use regular USB's just fine on both sides of my computer.

Did you download it to a specific usb port?

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

idk about 2g's but on a 1g you can year out that fp solenoid without even getting a CEL. I think on a 2g you can do it but you have to check the emissions box in link or something.

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Were you suppose to download it to a specific one? I thought it didn't matter which USB port it was plugged into as long as it got downloaded into the computer?

Goodhart yeah I checked around and it seems like I should be safe running without the solenoid as long as I run a vacuum line to the fpr from the intake mani.

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Mine would only work on the port closer to the memory card slot ( macbook pro) or it would freeze after connecting. Is the most recent version downloaded from here http://www.ecmtuning.com/downloads.p...c23rfg5rvl6e47
