Car audio help, how to improve quality

Ok, I've searched for threads on here and I can't find anything, even though I know there are some threads with info.

Anywho, I have an alpine cda-9852, RF power 4" in the dash, stock in teh doors for now and I have infinity kappa 693.5i or alpine type R both 6x9s, The kappas don't fit in the stock location so that's where teh alpines come in.

Anywho, how can I get the stereo to sound good, I have a kicker solo baric 10" in a truck box, but well it doesn't fit too well. I'd like to not use a sub, but I think I will need one for that lower end sound. I am trying to have a clean stock appearing setup so any and all help is appreciated.

Also if anyone has anything to add about speakers i'm all ears for buying or getting rid of.

Thanks guys

Aaron

Re: Car audio help, how to improve quality

Come over and take a look at my system, what's in there right now at least. I used to be pretty big into sound and I put together a nice quality system for my GSX. Basically it's 6.5" Polk Audio(?), I can't remember for sure, one of the higher end front component systems, with the tweets mounted high in the door panels for a stockish appearance. That and two 8" JL Audio subs in a box firing towards the back is it for speakers. I don't like rear speakers that much since I like the soundstage in front of me anyways. I used to have a Kicker amp putting 60w RMS to the fronts and 200w RMS to the subs. It sounded really nice for my kind of music, probably not good for rap or Lady Gaga. I sold that amp and am replacing it with a nicer JL Audio with 100w RMS to each front component and 400w RMS to the subs, that should add a little more kick. I've got the Pioneer AVIC D3 nav deck with built in crossovers. That and the whole interior is dynamatted so it's nice and quiet, relatively speaking considering I still had that 3.5" exhaust on there.

Rule of thumb is adding an amp to any audio system improves the sound quality. You don't need it to be loud to sound good. Aside from that, good speakers with individual tweeters and woofers help as well.

Re: Car audio help, how to improve quality

Thanks for the info.

My old car had no door speakers, but 4" in the dash and the type r 6x9 in back with a 10" sub, problem is it was clearly missing midrange.

I have some 5.25 alpine type r speakers for your front doors if you want them. They sound great. I also have a 4 channel alpine amp if you want to hook that up to your 6x9s and these 5.25s. That will make it sound pimp.

Let me know.

Re: Car audio help, how to improve quality

Alpine Type-R's are awesome, but really shine when you use an external amp with them. Something like a 500x4-800x4 would be great.

One other thing that helps is speaker baffles( http://tinyurl.com/2cvzn7k ). Otherwise on some cars they tend to get a "tin" like sound when the frequencies go through the whole door, or trunk.

And then of course there's dynomat. It's heavy, it's expensive, but it makes audio sounds better. Along with helping with road noise.

Re: Car audio help, how to improve quality

I'd like to keep the weight down but quality up.
I'll keep researching and updating this as I go along/get more helpful tips.
