Twin Disk question?

Why do twin disks squeak when you first put your car into 1st and start to engage the clutch? (from a full stop?) Just want to know so when people ask me, "why does your car squeak?" I can tell them. and not look like a fool who's car squeak's from when i first let the clutch pedal out. Thanks fellas!

Re: Twin Disk question?

Because there's no marcel spring in the clutch discs, they're just material on metal. When you let out the clutch, there's no "spring" there to take up the tension, so it's a bit more direct. Single disc puck clutches have the same type of engagement and sound.

Besides that, if you can hear your clutch at all, your exhaust isn't loud enough. :smoking:

Re: Twin Disk question?

I would guess its the disk vibrating (just like a break pad in a caliper), the twin disks is the only clutch for a DSM I have heard that noise from. I have used solid hub 6 pucks(gAyCT) and sprung 6 pucks and full face sprung metal disks(South Bend clutches), and they did not make that noise.

Re: Twin Disk question?

Steel on aluminum squeaks, the hub on a twin disk is aluminum with a steel plate sliding on it. I think that is part of it and is caused by the vibration. Mine doesn't really squeak any more as it got wore in.
